Student answer (Band 6.0)

Science has always played a important role in raising an individual's intellectual and analytical skills which enable them to dive deeply in backend of a process to formulate a theory or a innovation but the trend of taking science as their majors in among students is declining in universities of many countries.Consequently, it can have several impacts on the relative society as there will be a shortage of talented entreprenuers and scientists.

The drop of trend taking science as their subjects among students could be due to multiple reasons such as insufficient career counselling of students and irrelevant teaching methodolgy. For instance, there are some specific professions which are highlighted the most in a society.Following a loop that a child can dream of to be a pilot, doctor and engineer only, which consequently underestimate other academic fields leading students to abandon them spontaneously.

Furthermore, the teaching metholody and the course outline is also a driving factor of a student's interest towards a particular academic course. For example a student is devoted to study aviation only but the major covering some modules of finance will ultimately make the student not ityinterested.Eventually the student will give up on the majors even though he/she was passionate about it because of the outdated or inadequate course outline.

As a result, many students give up on science and other academic field of their interest even which can lead to a severe shortage of skilled workforce in a specific country. The job market equilbrium will be disrupted and more international workforce will tend to migrate causing a imbalance of unemployement among the native residents.Additionally, the consequences can be harsh such as increased racisim and economical unstability.

In a nutshell, the regulatory bodies of the education department in a specific country must implement a balanced approach to prevent the imbalance of upcoming shortage of skilled workforce. The government should raise situational awareness of dropping science and there must be proper career counselling of students.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the causes behind the decline in science students and the resulting societal effects. However, the development of these ideas is uneven. For example, while the point regarding societal pressure toward specific conventional careers like pilots and engineers is relevant, it remains somewhat under-developed and lacks specific real-world grounding. Similarly, the consequences mentioned in the fourth paragraph, such as increased racism and economic instability, are introduced abruptly without sufficient explanation of how a shortage of science students directly leads to these outcomes. To reach a higher level, the ideas need to be more fully extended, supported with clearer examples, and logically tied to the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from causes to effects and finally to a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, causes, effects, and conclusion. However, the cohesion can occasionally feel mechanical or rigid, as seen in transitions like 'Furthermore' and 'As a result,' which do not always bridge ideas as smoothly as they might at a higher band. Referencing is generally clear, but some sentences are overly long and dense, which slightly disrupts the natural flow of information for the reader. Incorporating a wider variety of cohesive devices more subtly would elevate the organizational quality.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to use less common items such as 'regulatory bodies,' 'situational awareness,' and 'workforce equilibrium.' However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation, such as writing 'an important role' (missing a space in 'a important'), 'entreprenuers' (spelling error), 'teaching methodolgy,' and 'ityinterested.' Furthermore, some expressions are awkward or non-standard, like 'drop of trend taking science.' These inaccuracies do not entirely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score because precision and control are lacking when attempting more sophisticated terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the response. There is an attempt to construct complex clauses, such as 'Science has always played an important role... which enable them to dive deeply...' but these often contain structural inaccuracies. Errors in grammar and punctuation appear with some regularity, including missing articles ('in among students', 'relative society'), faulty prepositional usage, and punctuation issues like missing spaces after commas and periods. Despite these errors, the sentences rarely impede overall communication, and the meaning of the arguments remains discernible to the reader. Greater control over complex sentence patterns and punctuation is needed to improve this criterion.
