Student answer (Band 6.0)
There has been a concern in our education departments regarding the prefernce of students in university being shifted away from science subjects. This might be a major issue for industries, hospitals, labs and research centres, as the causes and effects of this change are as significant as the issue itself.
The change in focus of students turning away from science fields is in accordance with the lack of jobs their graduates face and diificulty of surving without employment in such high inflation. The government is unable to produce more jobs and the time spent in studies does not equate to the salaries being provided for the struggle. The graduates of science fields find more difficulty as government does not provide sufficient funds for the high potential ideas and neglects the creativity in the field. For example, in some modern countries of world, fields such as medical and engineering have become less popular due to high unemployment rates.
The effects that this change has created is as severe as the causes, including less supply of high intellectual individuals in the fields of medical, engineering andresearch centres resulting in the decline of some of these departments. The negative effects of this change are considerably significant but the change in fouc of students away from the science programs has improved many other industries by high proportion such as entrepeneurship, bussinesses, industries of import export, fashion and IT sector aswell. For example, in pakistan, students have shifted their focus away from science which resulted in growth of IT, stock market and bussinesses.
To conclude, we can gather that the major causes of the change in prefernces of students in universities is high inflation and saturation in the fields while the effects can be summarized into slight decrease of sciene departments and the growth of all other sectors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the causes and the effects of fewer students choosing science at university. Your position is generally clear throughout the introduction and conclusion. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which is characteristic of this level. For instance, the causes regarding financial struggles, job scarcity, and inflation are well mentioned, but the effects are somewhat generalised, such as the statement that 'all other sectors' grow due to the shift. To reach a higher level, you would need to extend your supporting ideas with more precise explanations and detailed consequences rather than broad assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing used to separate the introduction, causes, effects, and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices to connect your ideas, such as 'For example' and 'To conclude'. However, the progression is sometimes affected by mechanical transitions and referencing issues, where sentences feel slightly disconnected from one another. For example, starting the third paragraph with 'The effects that this change has created is as severe as the causes' attempts to link the sections, but the internal flow within the body paragraphs occasionally becomes repetitive. To improve, you should ensure a smoother logical progression between sentences and use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common topics and vocabulary related to education, employment, and the economy. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text that show a lack of precision, such as 'prefernce', 'diificulty', 'surving', 'fouc', 'entrepeneurship', 'bussinesses', and 'sciene'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher band. To advance further, you need to use less common lexical items more accurately and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to handle subordinate clauses and extended phrases. There are, however, some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as subject-verb agreement issues like 'The effects that this change has created is' instead of 'are', and missing articles in phrases like 'in pakistan'. Despite these slips, your grammar rarely impedes communication. To move up to a higher band, you should aim for a greater proportion of error-free complex sentences and maintain tighter control over agreements, prepositions, and punctuation.
