Student answer (Band 5.5)

In many countries, there are not plentiful Alumni who are willing to choose Science as their major. The reasons behind this are very clear that students consider science as a difficult course and low rewarding in professional life. Resultantly, there's a dramatically far in numbers of inventions in those countries.

Firstly , One of the major reason of not selecting the science by the students is finding it hard to understand. This reason backs by the inefficient learning style in early school. As inefficient Learning causes zero interest in the cousework and ultimatly makes subject difficult. The second but undeniable cause of this is that students precieve, market is highly saturated and not easy to compete. The root of this preception is science was intaken by many students once. As a case in point, 3 out of 5 students in west countries were decided to science study. There is also one more reason of not choosing science is, students want to start earning rather than researching more. In order to work in science world , they must have legitimate knowledge and experience to earn well.

Consequently, such countries are far away from the huge innovations and research. They are dependent on the students of other countries or totally relying on other's state invention. This is making their footing in science world, very dismissive.

All in all,not selecting the science as major in university just because it seems difficult and career risking. It is ultimately impact on student's growth and also state's innovations independence. Every Society should have their own independent researchers and scientist to compete this fast ecosystem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the causes and effects of students avoiding science at university. The position is generally clear throughout the text. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the causes are explored through points like perceived difficulty and high market competition, but explanations such as 'science was intaken by many students once' lack clarity and remain under-developed. To reach a higher band, all main ideas need to be extended with fully coherent explanations and more robust supporting examples rather than abrupt or confusing assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and effects, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. While basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'The second', and 'Consequently' are employed to signpost the progression, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in 'This is making their footing in science world, very dismissive.' Paragraphing is present, but internal transitions could be smoother and more natural to establish a clearer logical progression throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'ecosystem', 'innovations', and 'independent researchers'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as using 'Alumni' instead of students or graduates, 'low rewarding' instead of poorly rewarded, and 'preception' with spelling issues. Phrases like 'legitimate knowledge' and 'dismissive footing' demonstrate awkward collocations. To improve, the student needs to focus on precision in word choice and natural collocations to ensure meaning is conveyed smoothly without distraction.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty and impede understanding at times. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('this reason backs by', 'students were decided'), missing articles ('in west countries', 'in science world'), and awkward phrasing resulting from faulty complex structures, such as 'not selecting the science as major in university just because it seems difficult and career risking.' Improving control over basic sentence patterns, verb voices, and prepositions within grammatical structures will help elevate accuracy.
