Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by attempting to discuss both causes and effects, earning the given band because the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the causes are briefly touched upon by stating that science subjects require 'more hard work and take more time', while the effects mention societal development and nuclear weapons. However, these points lack deep extension and specific supporting explanation. The position is visible throughout the essay, but the development of ideas tends to wander without fully exploring the broader implications for society requested by the prompt. To move to a higher level, the writer would need to provide fully expanded explanations for both causes and effects, supporting every main point with well-reasoned arguments and fully integrated examples rather than relying on brief assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates some organisation with basic paragraphing and transitional phrases such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', but it lacks a clear overall progression. The movement between ideas feels somewhat disjointed, and the relationships between sentences are not always clearly signposted. Furthermore, cohesive devices are sometimes repetitive or inaccurate, such as starting the conclusion with 'Conclusion,' instead of a standard transitional phrase. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the logical flow between paragraphs. To improve cohesion, the writer needs to ensure that every sentence links smoothly to the next, using a wider variety of accurate cohesive devices and establishing a more logical, progressive structure throughout the essay.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message, displaying attempts at subject-specific terms such as 'Healthcare', 'engineering', and 'commerce field'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'since subject' instead of 'science subjects', 'more hard time', and 'increase their brain'. Spelling errors also appear, including 'develope' and 'encourages'. These inaccuracies sometimes cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical range beyond basic terms, demonstrate greater precision in word choice and collocations, and minimize spelling and word-form errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and articles that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'many students don't choose... because they think that subject have' and 'she decided she studied'. Attempts at complex sentences often result in faulty structures and run-on phrasing, as seen in 'Some family suffer from financial problems so that children cannot to study in science'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly around the conclusion and introductory clauses. To progress, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms with improved grammatical accuracy, focusing heavily on verb patterns, articles, and clause structures.
