Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt regarding the causes of declining science enrolment and the effects on society, but the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. While the introduction outlines causes and effects, the subsequent paragraphs lack fully elaborated supporting examples. For instance, the discussion on practical classes versus theoretical teaching is briefly stated without exploring how this directly drives students away. Furthermore, there is a minor length penalty to consider: the response falls slightly short of the two hundred and fifty-word minimum requirement, containing two hundred and forty-three words, which prevents the task response from achieving a higher rating. To progress, you should ensure all main ideas are extended with detailed explanations and concrete real-world examples, while carefully checking your word count to fully meet the task instructions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates some organisation and attempts an overall progression through clear paragraphing, starting with an introduction, moving to causes, then effects, and concluding appropriately. However, the progression is occasionally disrupted by mechanical and inadequate cohesive devices. Phrases such as 'To begin with' and 'This leads to decline in student choosing less science subject' are used awkwardly, and referencing is sometimes unclear, making the logical links between sentences feel repetitive or strained. To improve Coherence and Cohesion, you should focus on using a wider variety of cohesive ties more naturally, such as substitution, ellipsis, and more advanced transition markers, ensuring that each sentence flows smoothly into the next without causing friction for the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate the central arguments about science education and societal effects. You attempt some less common items such as 'innovation', 'technological', and 'professionals', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'advance subject', 'considerable Students', 'high studies', and 'commercing'. These lexical slips and spelling inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your vocabulary range and pay closer attention to natural word partnerships, word families, and precise terminology relating to academic subjects and career paths.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'Science is is the advance subject which open numbers', pronoun and preposition errors such as 'in there career' and 'as there high studies', and missing or incorrect articles. These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To improve your grammatical score, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, tenses, plurals, and prepositions within grammatical patterns, while gradually introducing error-free complex sentence forms.
