Student answer (Band 5.0)
In diiferent parts of the world students at the universities choosing different fields of study instead of science. In this essay, i am going to discuss about the causes and it's effects on the society.
The main reason that students are choosing other subjects over science is that there are a lot of opportunaties which are easily available in different fields all over the world. In addition, students got to explore new things cultures and a variety of knowledge which is not limited. Another reason could be, some students find it difficult to understand science and think of it as the only tough subject, they are unaware about the difficulties of other fields. As a result, they end up choosing some random subject to get rid of science. This does not have any negative effect on the society, however students may regret choosin it.
The society is affected in a positive way, as more students choosing differnt subjects there will be more employemt opportunaties for them in the future. This will lead to a more balanced society. Furthermore, it will increase the overall development of countries in every field. However, number of students in science are getting limited, it will lead to an environment where science will get the great and curious minds, not someone who is forced in there.
In conclusion, whatever will be the causes are for this change in student mind, atleast they are choosing something they like. And the society will get great engineers, doctors, artists, etc. because of these choices.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt partially, outlining both causes and effects, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion regarding why students avoid science mentions broad concepts like 'opportunaties' and exploring cultures, but lacks specific elaboration or clear examples. Similarly, the explanation of the effects on society moves abruptly between claiming there is 'no negative effect' and stating that society is positively affected by a more balanced workforce. The student's position is discernible, but the overall development is superficial, meaning the points are stated rather than extended and supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic level of organisation with clear paragraph breaks dividing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, but the text lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as starting a sentence with 'However, number of students in science are getting limited'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in the phrase 'choosin it' where the antecedent is slightly loose. While the main topics are grouped into paragraphs, the logical transitions between sentences within those paragraphs feel disjointed and repetitive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors, including spelling mistakes such as 'diiferent', 'opportunaties', and 'employemt', as well as word choice issues like 'random subject'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but these choices frequently result in inaccuracies or awkward collocations that cause some difficulty for the reader. The range of words remains quite basic and repetitive throughout the essay, restricting precise communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex forms. There are frequent errors in grammar and mechanics, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'number of students... are getting limited' and punctuation slips, such as the lowercase 'i' used for the personal pronoun. Furthermore, prepositional usage and clause structures show frequent errors, such as 'discuss about the causes' and 'unaware about', which can occasionally cause difficulty and hesitation for the reader.
