Student answer (Band 5.5)

In majority o the states fewer students are opting to study science at unviersity.

In my opinion, this is a worrying trend because sciencific education plays a substantial role in the economic and technological development. This are certain reasons in the decline of this notion, and it can impact negatively on the society in the long term. Indeed reconstructing the curriculum is mandatory at this point.

One of the major factor is that studying science requires a massive amount of hard work and efforts as compared to the other subjects. For instance, business, law or media which have great significance in the today's world and provides alot of career opportunities. Additionally, science studies requires many years of training and the financial rewards may not seem to be attractive as compared to the other sectors. For example, I can recall when I was a student of a high school the only factor which kept me hesitant in choosing science subjects was only the amount of few I have to spent gaining knowledge in the specified field. Additionally, training can lead to further more years of intensive efforts. Considering the above mentioned areas I ultimately, dropped the idea of pursing my career in th efield of scientific studies.

On the other hand, this notion can have several negative consequences. First, shortage of science graduates may result in the lack of researchers, doctors, engineers and other professionals. Furthermore, the nations which fails to produce such professionals will depend on foreign experts technologies and can result in the economical decline of the country.

In the concluding statement, it is concluded that with the shortage studying science a country can face many hardships in terms of economy and further growth and the only reason in the decline of such would be the perceived difficulty of these subjects and fewer incentives in. In order to overcome this disaster to happen the governments and private institutions should eventually, make changes to the curriculum and make it attractive. Also, inculcate perks in the career pathways which would result in the favour of the government, country and the person itself.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you identify perceived difficulty, lengthy training and limited financial rewards as reasons, then explain that shortages of researchers and other professionals could increase reliance on foreign expertise and harm economic development. Your position that this is a worrying trend is clear. However, the causes are developed more fully than the effects, which are mainly asserted rather than illustrated or explained in detail. The personal example about hesitating to choose science is relevant, but the reference to the cost of study is unclear and could be connected more explicitly to the wider issue. To strengthen the response, explain specific consequences for areas such as healthcare, innovation or infrastructure, and support them with a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on effects and a conclusion. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. You also use signposting such as “For instance,” “On the other hand” and “Furthermore.” However, some links feel mechanical or do not accurately show the relationship between ideas. For example, “On the other hand” introduces consequences rather than a contrasting view, while “Additionally” is repeated within the causes paragraph. The conclusion also combines several points in a long sentence, making the final recommendation less clear. Use transitions that express the precise relationship between ideas, and organise each paragraph around a clear main point followed by explanation and evidence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “economic and technological development,” “career opportunities,” “researchers” and “intensive efforts.” These choices help communicate the subject and show attempts to use more formal language. However, inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable, including “sciencific,” “alot,” “few” where “fee” is intended, and “pursing.” Some collocations are also unnatural, such as “shortage studying science” and “inculcate perks.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main argument, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim to use familiar academic expressions accurately, and proofread spelling and word forms. For example, “a shortage of science graduates” and “offer incentives” would express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “the nations which fails to produce such professionals will depend…” and a relative clause beginning “which have great significance.” This gives the response some structural variety. However, errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction occur in several places. For example, “One of the major factor” should use a plural noun, and “science studies requires” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The opening “In majority o the states” also lacks a correctly formed article phrase. Some sentences become difficult to control, particularly the final sentence, where the recommendation is joined to several ideas without clear grammatical structure. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and building shorter, complete sentences before adding subordinate clauses.
