Nowadays, it is believed by a few individuals that many students are not choosing science subjects at university in many countries. In this essay I will explain the causes and effects of this have on society.

On the one hand, many students do not choose science subjects at university. Students find that science subjects such as physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology are too difficult. There are many parts of the world where colleges and university are not available and some parents do not allow their children to go outside for studies. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both parts of the question and give relevant causes, including perceived difficulty, cost, limited university access and parental restrictions. You also identify possible social effects, such as shortages of doctors and scientists. However, these ideas are often asserted rather than explained: for example, the link between studying science and having to travel elsewhere for medical care needs clearer development, and the effect on younger people is vague. The final paragraph shifts to advice about who should study science instead of drawing together the causes and effects. A clearer central explanation and specific examples would make the response more complete and developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for causes and effects, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the broad organisation. However, some links are mechanical or do not accurately signal the relationship between ideas; “On the other hand” introduces effects rather than a contrasting view. Within paragraphs, points sometimes jump without explanation, particularly from shortages of professionals to the influence on younger people and then to pride in career choices. Use clearer links between cause and consequence, and make each paragraph progress through a connected explanation rather than a list of points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “science subjects,” “financial problems,” “profession,” and “society.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors make parts less clear, such as “subjecs,” “intrest,” “expencive,” “scientiest,” and “proudful.” Some phrases are also imprecise, including “the science study” and “big loss on society.” Aim to use more accurate academic collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe a “shortage of healthcare professionals” rather than saying society “do not have a doctor,” and use “stressful” only for situations, not people.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including conditional forms such as “If they choose those subjects…” and “when they are suffering…”. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors in verb forms and agreement occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “the effects of this have,” “it can also very expensive,” “it have many effects,” and “People … do not have a doctor.” There are also problems with articles and sentence construction, as in “an doctor” (in the intended meaning) and “Children encorage more to choose.” Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, then build longer sentences from accurate clauses.
