Student answer (Band 5.5)
In myraid countries, fewer students are choosing to science-releted subject at university. This trend can be attribute to several reasons, and it may some negative effects on society.
One major reason is that meny students considered that science is most difficult and demanding subject. Subjects such as physics, chemisry and biology often require strong analitical skills, consistant effort and considerable amount of study. Consequences, learners who prefer subjects with less technic content may choose area such as art, business and social science instead. Furthermore, young people are increasingly attrected to careers seem to offer quicker financial rewards. For instance, jobs in industries, marketing and technology can appear more attractive because they may provide good salaries and flexible career opportunities without requiring many years of specialised study.
This reduction in science students can have several consequencesmfor society. The most significant effect could be a shortage of qualitified scientist, reaserchers and medical professionals. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both parts of the question by identifying perceived difficulty and the appeal of quicker financial rewards as causes, then discussing possible shortages of scientists and slower research as effects. These are relevant points, but several are only briefly explained, and the final example is cut off at “due to de,” leaving the response without a complete ending or fully developed illustration. The effect of relying on foreign experts is also introduced but not clearly explained. The response contains 222 words, so it does not meet the 250-word minimum; this limits the space available to develop your ideas. To strengthen the response, complete the example and explain more clearly how each cause or effect influences society.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, and a paragraph on effects. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Moreover,” and “For example” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression becomes difficult to follow near the end: “In addition, cause of these problem…” contains several ideas without a clear connection, and the final sentence stops mid-thought. Some links are also mechanical rather than showing precisely how one point leads to another. Use clearer topic sentences and divide the effects into a logical sequence—for example, workforce shortages, consequences for research, and economic dependence. A complete conclusion would also give the response a more finished overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “analytical skills,” “specialised study,” “scientific research,” and “innovation.” These choices show an effort to discuss the issue beyond basic terms. However, spelling and word-choice errors are frequent and sometimes make the meaning difficult to understand, as in “myraid,” “science-releted,” “qualitified scientist,” and “economic compatitars.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “industries, marketing and technology” as examples of careers and “environmental obstacles.” Check spelling carefully and learn common academic collocations, such as “environmental challenges” and “a shortage of qualified scientists.” More accurate use of a smaller set of topic-specific terms would make your ideas clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure: “If fewer young individuals enter these fields, scientific research and innovation may progress more slowly.” This is a useful way to explain a possible consequence. However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes obscure meaning. For example, “fewer students are choosing to science-related subject” has an incorrect verb pattern and singular/plural form, while “This trend can be attribute” uses the wrong verb form. The final sentence is incomplete, and “cause of these problem nation can depend” lacks necessary grammatical structure and agreement. Practise accurate articles, plurals, verb forms, and complete sentence construction before adding more complex clauses.
