Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many countries across the globe, a decline in number of students opting to study science at university is seen. In the following subdivisions, I have mentioned some of the causes of this trend and also stated it's impact on the society.
The primary driver of this trend is the high extent of competition at the work place leading to unemployment or accepting non satisfactory jobs. This is because of the over supply of students studied in science field and the less number of jobs available compared to the supply. Consequently, the number of enrollments in science field are declining as individuals nowadays prefer high paying jobs or a satisfactory job which is more likely to be lacking in science field. Furthermore, there are plethora of options available which are high paying and satisfactory than science field such as doing business, persuing hobby or working as a slef-employed person. Owing to these reasons the number of students opting for studying science at university are decreasing.
This adversly affects the society as there would be a severe shortage of skilled professionals like doctors and engineers to cope up with their demand. It would lead to derterioration of public health as doctors required to cure contaagious diseases would be lacking. By not having the required civil engineers for infrastructural development, the country would not be able to build hospitals and infrastructures providing jobs required for the overall development of the society. For example, following of this trend in various economies has resulted in more deaths due to contagious and respiratory diseases.
To conclude, the main cause of this trend is the high level of competition at work place. This has affected the socielty adversly due to unavailability of required professionals required for overall well-being of the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question and maintain a clear focus on declining science enrolments. The explanation that competition for jobs and the prospect of unsatisfactory or lower-paid work discourage students is relevant, and you identify social consequences through shortages of doctors and engineers. However, the causes are developed more fully than the effects: the claims about public health and infrastructure would benefit from clearer explanation and a specific, credible example. The statement that science offers fewer satisfactory jobs is also asserted rather than supported, and the alternatives of business, hobbies and self-employment are listed without showing why they attract students. Develop these points with concrete reasoning and examples to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on effects, and a conclusion. The progression from employment competition to reduced enrolment, then to professional shortages, is generally easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Consequently,” “Furthermore,” and “For example” to signal relationships between ideas. This meets the requirements for coherent organisation, while some cohesion remains mechanical or unclear. For instance, “Owing to these reasons” repeats the preceding explanation, and “This” in the effects paragraph could refer more explicitly to the decline in science students. The conclusion largely repeats the introduction. Use more precise referencing and make each paragraph’s final sentence advance or synthesise its point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “competition,” “unemployment,” “skilled professionals,” “infrastructural development,” and “contagious diseases.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt more formal phrasing. However, several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems reduce precision: “high extent of competition,” “over supply,” “persuing,” “slef-employed,” “adversly,” and “derterioration” are inaccurate or misspelled. Some phrases are also awkward, such as “the number of enrollments in science field” and “jobs required for the overall development.” Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; precise terms such as “job prospects” or “qualified workforce” would make the argument clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including cause-and-effect structures with “This is because” and “as,” and a conditional construction beginning “By not having the required civil engineers.” Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “students studied in science field” needs a correctly formed relative clause, while “the number of enrollments … are declining” has a subject–verb agreement problem. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent in phrases such as “at work place” and “in science field,” and “it's impact” uses the wrong form of the pronoun. Review agreement, article use and sentence construction, then proofread each sentence. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control without sacrificing the range you are attempting.
