Student answer (Band 5.0)

In lot of countries not enough students are choosing to study science at university. The main cause of this students find biology not that much interesting.

Science is an important subject to understand the enviornment and human body. In the evey field we need science for example in research, space, technology. Students do not like science because the concepts are difficult to understand therefore, they get fail in the exams. The fear of failure pushes them to avoid the science.

In science students can not chant they sould understand the concepts in better way.

Science is very time consuming therefore students do not like this subject. Besides science in that same time period students can complete their other subjects easily. In science students have to make a lot of diagrams, pdfs and assignments that may be difficult for them and if do not submit on time that can decrease their marks. It has a huge effect on society this will decrease the number of doctors and scientists that will also affect the economy of the country. For example, less doctors in country means poor health system. People can not get the treatment on time that will increase death rate and have a significant impact on population of country.

In conclusion, students are not choosing science is a great concern for the society as we are loosing doctors and scientists that will disturb the economy of the country and life style of the people because people not getting appropriate treatment in the hospitals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both causes and effects, identifying difficulty, fear of failing, and the time required for science as reasons students avoid it. You also explain possible social consequences, especially fewer doctors and a weaker health system, with the example of delayed treatment. However, the response is under the required length: it contains 239 words, so it is 11 words short; the 11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. This limits the development of your ideas. Some claims also need clearer explanation—for example, the link between science study and the economy is asserted rather than demonstrated, and the opening focuses on biology although the question concerns science more broadly. Develop each cause and effect with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, discussion of causes and effects, and a conclusion. Connectors such as “therefore,” “Besides,” and “For example” show attempts to link ideas. However, progression is uneven: the first paragraph gives only a brief cause, while the next combines several causes with effects, making the organisation difficult to follow. Some links are unclear, as in “Besides science in that same time period students can complete their other subjects easily.” The conclusion repeats the effects rather than drawing the main points together, and “this” in “this will decrease the number” has an unclear reference. Use separate paragraphs for causes and effects, and make each paragraph develop one main point in a clear sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “concepts,” “research,” “technology,” “health system,” and “death rate,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “students find biology not that much interesting” is awkward, “students can not chant” appears to use the wrong word, and “loosing doctors” is an incorrect spelling and choice for the intended meaning. Phrases such as “in the evey field” and “life style” also reduce precision. Aim for more accurate academic collocations and check spelling and word forms; this will make your ideas clearer without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt some longer sentences to explain cause and effect, such as “The fear of failure pushes them to avoid the science” and the sentence linking fewer doctors to a poor health system. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty or difficult to follow. Examples include “In lot of countries,” “Students do not like science because the concepts are difficult to understand therefore, they get fail in the exams,” and “if do not submit on time that can decrease their marks.” These show problems with articles, clause structure, and verb forms. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention, particularly where ideas are joined with commas. Practise building accurate sentences with one clear main clause and a correctly formed subordinate clause.
