Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question and maintain a clear focus on why students avoid science and how society may be affected. The causes are relevant: you explain that science subjects demand substantial effort and that some other fields appear to offer quicker financial returns. You also identify consequences, including shortages in healthcare and environmental work and dependence on other countries for technology. This meets the core requirements well. To make the response more fully developed, explain the links in greater detail—for example, how a shortage of science graduates could affect healthcare services or innovation—and support the claims with a specific example. The effects are somewhat more general than the causes, so extending them would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on effects, and a conclusion. The progression from reasons to consequences is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Another important factor,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. The ideas within each main paragraph are generally grouped appropriately. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, and the opening sentence tries to introduce several points at once, making the progression less smooth. The effects paragraph would also benefit from clearer links between the shortage of graduates, the impact on industries, and the country’s economic position. Use referencing and transitions to show these relationships rather than relying mainly on sequencing phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “postgraduate study,” “qualified staff,” “scientific talent,” and “technological advancements,” which helps communicate the main ideas. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “contemparory,” “creer,” “new technology and medical break down,” and “immediately graduation.” Some terms are also repeated, such as “science” and “society,” without much variation. Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases; for instance, describe the effort required by a degree as “demanding,” and refer to “medical breakthroughs.” This would make your vocabulary more accurate and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast between science and other career paths and a conditional idea beginning “if nation lack scientific talent.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical errors occur across the response and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “the main reasons is” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “Many scientific careers require long period” needs an article and plural form. The opening sentence also contains an incomplete or poorly connected structure, and several sentences lack clear punctuation or capitalisation. Practise building accurate sentences around one main clause, then add subordinate clauses and check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
