Student answer (Band 5.5)

In modern days, education play a huge role in society because it provides more opportunities in upcoming days. In many nations not enough pupils are choosing to study science at university. I think there are several reasons behind it however it does effects on society in many ways which I will discuss in this statement.

One of the main reason is that many universities do not provide them better equipment and labs facilities for study. Because they think it is more costly if they purchase full equipment to make their lab fulfil so they find more loss. Another reason is that science study is more expensive which ie higher level from their expectations because a significant number of learners belong to a poor family. Therefore, they cannot pay fee of science subject. Consequently, they do change their path and go in other subjects study such as art, history and others.

Nevertheless, it gives more negative effects on society. First and foremost, the society is lack behind to new innovations. Because science study develops toddlers mind and enhance their understanding. If they are not choosing to study science so they will not become a doctor and scientist. As a consequence, it effects on society development and individuals face a lot of health problems because there are no one who treat them in a good way.

To conclude, students are not choosing to study science subject at university because it is more expensive and time consuming, whereas it gives more bad outcome on society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both parts of the question: you suggest that inadequate university facilities and the cost of science courses discourage students, and you describe possible effects such as fewer innovations and shortages of doctors and scientists. These points are relevant, but they are only partly developed. For example, the claim that universities avoid buying equipment because they expect a loss needs clearer explanation, and the effects on society are mostly asserted rather than supported with a specific example. The introduction signals that you will discuss causes and effects, but your position is not fully clear or sustained. To strengthen the response, explain how each cause influences students’ choices and develop the social consequences with a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on effects, and a conclusion. This makes the main stages of your argument easy to identify. You also use signposts such as “Another reason,” “Consequently,” and “To conclude.” However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “Nevertheless” does not clearly show the relationship between the causes and the effects, and several sentences begin with “Because,” leaving the links between ideas awkward. The conclusion repeats the main points but does not bring them together clearly. Use a wider range of linking methods, make cause-and-effect relationships explicit, and ensure each paragraph develops its central point in a logical sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “equipment,” “innovations,” “scientist,” and “health problems.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “a significant number of learners.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “the society is lack behind,” “make their lab fulfil,” and “it does effects on society.” Repetition of general terms such as “study,” “society,” and “more” also limits precision. Build a bank of natural academic collocations for education and social consequences, and check that each word fits its grammatical and contextual role.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including cause-and-effect structures with “because,” “therefore,” and “as a consequence.” This shows some range, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur often enough to make parts of the response difficult to read. For example, “education play” has subject–verb disagreement, “One of the main reason” has a number error, and “there are no one who treat them” contains problems with agreement and verb form. Some complex sentences are also awkwardly constructed, such as “If they are not choosing to study science so they will not become a doctor and scientist.” Practise accurate sentence patterns for explaining causes and results, and check agreement, articles, plurals, and punctuation when editing.
