IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In many countries not enough students are choosing to study science at university. What are the causes of this? What effects does it have on society?
Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 4.5)
Many people argue that there is no more than enough students who choose science field in thier university. In my poit of view there are two main causes because the science field study expense is not affordable for every one.The second problem is lack of interest and some students takes it as difficult field. They cannot understand the basics. If we talk about the effects on society so, i think it does not effect society it give opportunity to do students what they want to do.
Firstly, we discuss about how it is not affordable for everyone?
Answer is simple because every student parent was not rich that much to support them in thier study fee. Some students do part-time work with thier studies to support themseleves. For example Today the science field was expensive rather than other field like art and we assume that A student whose parents was not able to pay fee for him or her study. So, he can do part-time work to support his study fees. That student wants to study in arts field rahter than choose science because he can only afford arts field fee.
secondly, How lack of interest is a problem where students ignore or pass science field and choose other field. So, the explaination is simple if a student does not have interest in science so why he can choose. For example, A student who have interest in paintings and drawing a paiting. He has know everything about paiting and drawing so, whenever he choose another field or science it will be diificult for him as well as he cannot understand the basics things of science.\
As the result, I beleive that there are only 2 major reason of why students not considering science as much than other field. Also, There is nothing that effect society if students not considering science. It give them confidence to choose what they actually want to do.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify two relevant causes—cost and lack of interest—and give examples involving students who cannot afford fees or prefer art. This shows an attempt to address the question. However, the effects on society are not adequately answered: the claim that low science enrolment “does not effect society” is asserted rather than explained, and the idea that students can choose what they want does not describe a societal effect. The causes are also only partly developed; for instance, you mention that science is expensive but do not explain what costs are involved or how they discourage enrolment. Make your position clearer and discuss specific consequences, such as fewer science graduates for research, healthcare, or industry, supporting each point with explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an opening paragraph, separate sections for the two causes, and a concluding paragraph, so the reader can identify its broad structure. However, progression is limited: the conclusion repeats that there are two causes and that society is unaffected without bringing the discussion together or resolving the task’s second question. Several transitions are mechanical or awkward, such as “Firstly, we discuss about” and “secondly,” while repeated “For example” constructions make the paragraphs feel formulaic. Some links between sentences are unclear, particularly in the affordability example, where the student’s circumstances and choice of subject are difficult to follow. Use topic sentences that state each main point, then connect explanation and evidence clearly, and give the effects their own organised paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use a small set of relevant terms, including “science field,” “lack of interest,” “part-time work,” and “study fees,” which helps communicate the general topic. However, vocabulary is limited and repetitive, and several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, including “science field study expense,” “other field,” and “the basics things of science.” Spelling errors such as “thier,” “beleive,” and “diificult” are noticeable and sometimes slow the reader. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and accurate collocations: for example, refer to “tuition fees,” “science degrees,” and “scientific careers.” Check spelling carefully and avoid repeating “field” by using suitable alternatives such as “subject” or “discipline.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some longer sentences and use basic linking structures, but sentence patterns are limited and complex attempts are often faulty. Errors occur frequently in agreement and verb forms, as in “some students takes it” and “a student who have interest,” and in sentence construction, as in “every student parent was not rich that much.” Articles, plurals, and punctuation are also inconsistent; for example, “the science field study expense is not affordable for every one” is difficult to process, and several sentences run together. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with clauses using “because,” “who,” or “although,” checking subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
