Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the modern world, so many students are not willing to study science at university in many countries. However it is witnessed that students are choosing art subjects instead of sciences.
Initially, lack of employments are most pressing reason behind neglecting science. As nowadays most of the science graduates are unemployed or suffering from financial debt. Moreover, some of them are working for free or without being paid just for experience to get a paid job. Similarly, this factor discouraged students most from choosing science as their university major. To exemplify, an article published by BBC reveal that unemployment is the key factor behind why students neglecting science at university.
Nevertheless, an increasing interest in arts is another major reason. As most of the students are choosing arts at university. Furthermore, nowadays students wants to do something unique and appealing. Also, some student finds science more challenging as compared to art. While, arts also improved communication skills subject like history, litreature, and languages help students develop their writing as well as critical thinking. To illustrate, a podcast by dawn reveals that increasing interest in arts is another reason behind why students ignore science.
In contrast, shortage of science professionals is the umost effect it have on society. If students continues to neglect science, it becomes very challenging to find a expert. Furthermore, it not only increase the cost of services., but also slower scientific and technological developments. Such as, an article published by CNN shows that lack of professionals in science field is the most negative impact on society.
To cap it all, since all of these causes encourages students to choose art or other subjects over science in university. Although, choosing arts can promote creativity, but a decline in the number of science students may leads to lack of skilled professionals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question by giving reasons for the decline in science study and describing a societal effect. The points about perceived employment prospects, students’ interest in arts, and a shortage of science professionals are relevant. However, the causes are not equally convincing or developed: the claim that science graduates are often unemployed is asserted rather than explained, and the arts paragraph repeats that students choose arts without clarifying why this trend is increasing. The effect on society is clearer, especially the link to fewer experts and slower technological development, but it would benefit from a specific example and fuller explanation. Develop each main idea with a clear cause-and-effect chain rather than relying on general claims or references to unnamed articles and podcasts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for causes and effects, and a conclusion. This organisation helps the reader follow the main points, and connectors such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “In contrast” show an effort to link ideas. The progression is not always smooth, however. “Nevertheless” and “In contrast” do not clearly express the relationships between the points that follow, while “As” begins sentence fragments in the body paragraphs. Some ideas are also repeated, particularly the claim that students are choosing arts. To strengthen cohesion, make each paragraph’s central point explicit, connect supporting details directly to it, and use fewer, more precise linking expressions. The conclusion should summarise the causes and effect rather than introduce a broad contrast about arts.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “science graduates,” “financial debt,” “communication skills,” “critical thinking,” and “scientific and technological developments.” These choices make the subject clear, and you attempt more formal phrasing. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “lack of employments,” “neglecting science,” “working for free just for experience,” and “the umost effect” are unnatural or unclear. There are also spelling errors such as “litreature,” and repeated use of “reason” and “students are choosing” limits flexibility. Aim for accurate academic collocations and check spelling; for example, describe students as “opting for arts subjects” and refer to “limited employment prospects” rather than “lack of employments.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex forms, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures, as in “If students continues to neglect science” and “it not only increase the cost of services, but also slower scientific and technological developments.” These attempts show a willingness to vary sentence patterns, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some sentences awkward or difficult to process. For example, “students wants” should have a plural verb, and “it have” needs a singular verb form. Several sentences beginning with “As” are incomplete, and punctuation is sometimes misplaced, as in “services., but also.” Focus on complete clauses, subject–verb agreement, and checking each sentence’s main verb. More accurate control of these basics would make your complex ideas clearer.
