Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In many countries, around the globe students after completing high school give less preference to science majors, and they choose to study different majors such as business, entrepreneurship, arts, designing and acting. I think that, the main reason for this can be that, in schools they teachers focus less on students learning science and make their classes boring. And students find it difficult to do. The effects are noticeable for this.
There are several reasons that students are interested in science studies. There are some reasons because of universities and colleges, and some might of interest. Students might not choose science studies because of high fees of science majors, and students who afford their expenses themselves by doing part time work couldn't be able to afford these expenses of universities. And other reasons might be student lost interest in science subjects, because of bad and less educated teachers with low experience sudents take less interest in studies ecause of their teaching style.
The effects for the shortage of science students can be very dangerous. When, there are less doctors and engineers in a country the country's infrastructure and economy will be destroyed. When there are shortage of doctors in a country who will treat patients in hospitals. And, if there are less numbers of engineers in a country there is no one to make buildings, bridges and other infrastructure.
In conclusion, the causes are that which can be solved with a little bit of effort.
And the effects are very dangerous so government and universities need to solve these problems by taking professional teachers, and by launching scholorships programs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both causes and effects, and your main position is that weak science teaching and affordability discourage students, while shortages of doctors and engineers harm society. These are relevant points, and the examples of treating patients and building infrastructure help make the effects concrete. However, the response only partially develops the task: the causes are repeated or briefly stated, and the claim that the economy and infrastructure will be “destroyed” is not explained or qualified. The conclusion proposes scholarships and professional teachers, but does not clearly summarise the effects or connect each solution to a cause. Develop fewer ideas in more detail, explaining how they lead to lower enrolment and wider social consequences.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on effects, and a conclusion. This gives the reader a basic route through the answer. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and some links are repetitive or unclear. For example, “There are several reasons” is followed by “There are some reasons,” while “The effects are noticeable for this” does not clearly introduce the effects that follow. The final paragraph also shifts abruptly from causes to solutions. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s focus, then arrange supporting points in a clear sequence. Reduce repeated linking phrases and make references such as “this” explicit so the relationships between ideas are easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “science majors,” “part time work,” “doctors,” “engineers,” and “infrastructure,” so the subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making the meaning harder to follow. For instance, “give less preference to science majors” and “the effects are very dangerous” are imprecise, while “less numbers of engineers” is not a natural expression. Spelling errors such as “sudents,” “ecause,” and “scholorships” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of phrases for describing university enrolment, teaching quality, and social consequences, and check spelling and collocations during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if there are less numbers of engineers” and clauses explaining why students lose interest. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. Examples include “in schools they teachers focus less,” “students who afford their expenses themselves … couldn't be able to afford,” and “When, there are less doctors,” which show problems with sentence construction, agreement, and punctuation. Errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read, although the overall meaning can usually be understood. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly connected subordinate clause, and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and comma placement.
