Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify both requested areas: possible causes, including the cost of science courses and students’ preference for other subjects, and effects such as a shortage of doctors and slower economic growth. However, these points are only minimally explained. For example, the link between fewer science students and fewer doctors is asserted, while the discussion of economic growth is unclear and not supported with a specific example. The conclusion repeats the main claims rather than developing them. The response also does not meet the 250-word minimum: it contains 214 words, with 12 words copied from the prompt excluded from the count. To strengthen the response, explain how each cause leads to students’ choices and how each effect influences society, using clear, relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, a paragraph about causes, a paragraph about effects, and a conclusion. This gives the reader a basic sense of the intended structure. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow, and linking phrases are often repetitive or unclear. For instance, “On the on hand” is used to introduce both causes and effects, although the second paragraph needs a distinct transition. Ideas such as “doctors bg for personal work and anyworks” interrupt the explanation rather than connecting clearly to the point about shortages. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s focus, then develop one idea at a time with clear links such as “As a result” or “For example.”

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a basic set of relevant topic words, including “science education,” “subjects,” “doctors,” “economic growth,” and “technology,” so the general topic is recognisable. However, vocabulary is repetitive and often inaccurate or unclear, which strains communication. Phrases such as “students chouse for other subjest,” “doctors bg for personal work,” and “low development of society” do not express the intended ideas precisely. Spelling errors, including “Nowdays,” “diffults,” and “grouth,” also make the writing harder to read. Build a small bank of accurate topic phrases and check spelling; for example, distinguish “the cost of a science degree” from “a shortage of qualified doctors.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

You attempt to form connected sentences and use some basic structures, including cause-and-effect statements. However, the range is very limited, and frequent errors in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation sometimes distort meaning. For example, “most of people are poor and they not effort for science course” lacks grammatical structure, while “The can effects society” does not form a clear sentence. Several ideas are joined without appropriate sentence boundaries, as in the opening paragraph. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using “because,” “so,” and “as a result.” Check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and use full stops to separate complete ideas.
