Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays many pupils not have been willing to study subject which is related to a science at university. Therefore, there have been many causes occuring in many countries as their students are not comfortable with provided course and lack of resources and it can effect on the society, a country's reputation and in their education. I will discuss about a cause which can occur and I will also provide an information about many effects which could be affected.

Initially, these types of problems generally happens where the country does not have enough resources to provide their youth or the government is not putting the efforts on such cases. For example; an Indian students have been identified as a most ethical and always ready for studying in any sectors but their major problem is an Indian education system because it mainly based on giving theoritical knowledge rather than focusing onto practical study and this could be one of a reason where students are not choosing to study science related subjects anymore in india, in fact mostly go to western countries. In addition, situations such as lack of resources, it means a student does not have any basic thing to study that particular subject; for example; South African students does not have any advanced technologies such as Science lab.

On the other hand, there have been causes such as students are going abroad for higher studies and it could effect on a country where they were born, it is because a student is one of the reason to grow country's economy in direct way or indirect situations. Also, it can cause unemployment in some scenarios, shortages in that study sector and it possibly impact on universities financial growth

Thirdly, it effects to the citizens in a way of thinking that their country does not have depth or interest for their youth's future and the amount of faith they have given to the government is gone.

To conclude, these types of situations happens in many countries and some good countries government take these situation very seriously and some other countries does take at all and end up in these situations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both parts of the question: you suggest causes, including limited educational resources and a theory-focused system, and describe possible effects such as unemployment, shortages in science-related sectors, and reduced trust in government. These are relevant starting points, but the response only partially develops them. The discussion of students going abroad shifts away from the central issue of why fewer students choose science, and the effects are mostly listed rather than explained with clear cause-and-effect links. The opening also promises to discuss “a cause” and “many effects,” but the main ideas are not consistently supported with specific examples. To strengthen the response, explain how each cause discourages science study and how each effect follows for society.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on causes, paragraphs on effects, and a conclusion. Basic signposting such as “Initially,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” helps readers identify stages of the discussion. However, progression is not always clear: the paragraph beginning “On the other hand” introduces students going abroad, which is not clearly connected to the question of declining science enrolment, and the next paragraph adds a separate point about public trust without developing its link to the previous ideas. Some linking phrases are mechanical or imprecise, and references such as “these types of problems” are vague. Group related causes and effects more clearly, and use explicit links to show how each point follows.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “resources,” “theoretical knowledge,” “practical study,” “unemployment,” and “shortages,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “a country's reputation” and “depth” do not clearly express the intended social consequences, while “effect on the society” and “financial growth” are not natural in these contexts. Spelling and word-form errors such as “occuring,” “theoritical,” and “effects” used as a verb also reduce precision. Build a bank of accurate phrases for education and social impacts, and check collocations and word forms when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “where,” but complex structures are often faulty and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences hard to interpret. Examples include “many pupils not have been willing,” “these types of problems generally happens,” and “South African students does not have,” where verb forms or subject–verb agreement are incorrect. Articles, plurals, and sentence construction also need attention, as in “an Indian students” and “it effects to the citizens.” Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly around introductory phrases and examples. Practise building accurate basic sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking agreement, articles, and verb forms.
