Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years, there has been increasing trend about to select other courses instead of science in higher education institutions. few causes of this approach including individual having a different interest of study and difference in intellectual ability between students, leads to generate few negative impacts on society like reducing the number of professionals.
First and foremost cause in selection of variety of courses in universities among individuals depend on their personal interest. majority of the students can perform better in high school with securing 90-95% in arts subject instead of chemistry, physics and computer courses. for instance, if someone chose a computer or business course in higher education due to forcing of his parents, he would probably get low grades in his 1st term, due to his different interest. So, giving a freedom to individuals while selecting their courses should be purely based on their interest.
Second major cause is every student having a unique intellectual ability to understand the science and arts courses. as an illustration, although engineering and medical field will have strong influence on job market in future, but we can't ignore the importance of historians and authors. For example, all the occupations having massive importance in each decade. Therefore, both sciences and arts sector will grow in the long run.
Ignoring the study of science having a negative impact that would influence that society is less professionals can produce within the passage of time. to explicate this idea, few scientist, Information and technology experts and doctors are contribute to grow the society. For instance, Australian is now facing a shortage of aged care workers and Engineering professionals in 2026. consequently, having a mixture of all occupation in society provide a balanced framework to their lifestyle.
In conclusion, students are encouraged to chose other fields based on his preference and cognitive ability; although, this forces to certain impacts on society having lack of professional.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both causes and societal effects, and the response stays relevant to the question. The causes you identify—students’ interests and differences in ability—are understandable, while the shortage of science-related professionals is a relevant effect. However, the discussion only partially develops the task: the second cause focuses on why students may choose different fields, rather than explaining clearly why science is less attractive, and the claim that society needs a balance of occupations does not fully explain the consequences of too few science graduates. Examples such as Australia’s shortage of aged-care workers and engineers could support the effect, but the link to university science enrolment needs to be made explicit. Develop each point with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation and more precise supporting detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for causes and effects, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “First and foremost,” “Second major cause,” and “In conclusion” help the reader follow the main stages. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and some links between ideas are unclear. For example, the paragraph about intellectual ability moves from students’ abilities to the importance of historians and authors, then to the growth of both sectors, without clearly connecting these points to declining science enrolment. The effect paragraph also shifts from fewer professionals to a balanced mix of occupations. Use linking expressions more selectively and make each paragraph’s central point explicit, then ensure every example directly supports that point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “higher education institutions,” “intellectual ability,” “job market,” and “professionals.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond basic terms. However, several word combinations and forms are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended meaning less clear. Examples include “increasing trend about to select,” “few causes,” “grow the society,” and “a mixture of all occupation.” Some terms are also imprecise: “science” is broad, while the examples refer to particular fields such as engineering and medicine. Aim for more natural collocations and precise wording, and check plural forms and word forms when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional and concessive structures, as in “if someone chose … he would probably get low grades” and “although engineering and medical field …”. However, control is inconsistent, and frequent errors can make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “few causes … leads” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “few scientist … are contribute” combines incompatible verb forms. Articles, sentence openings, and punctuation also need attention: several sentences begin with lowercase words, and the final sentence has an unclear structure. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and checking each sentence for a complete main clause. Then review articles, plurals, and verb forms before submitting.
