Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response makes a limited attempt to address the question, but it does not clearly explain both the causes of low science enrolment and the effects on society. The paragraph beginning “On the one hand” mainly describes scientists’ contributions, such as inventions and helping police, rather than explaining why students avoid science or developing the social effects of that trend. The later paragraph mentions university costs and limited opportunities for poorer students, which is relevant as a possible cause, but the explanation is difficult to follow and not supported with a clear example. The conclusion proposes scholarships and extra chances, but does not summarise the causes and effects. Focus each main paragraph on one part of the prompt and explain the links between ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the second hand,” and “In conclusion” signal stages of the essay. However, the ideas are not arranged coherently: the first body paragraph discusses scientists’ achievements, while the next shifts to university costs and students’ difficulties without a clear connection to the question. Several sentences are hard to follow because relationships between points are not made explicit, and repeated use of “the many” and “because” does not create clear progression. Plan a sequence that directly answers the prompt—for example, causes first, then societal effects—and use linking phrases to show how each point supports the main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

Vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and frequent spelling and word-choice errors strain the reader’s understanding. Examples include “intrestred,” “fututre,” “investion,” “lounched,” and “schloarship.” Some topic-related words are present, including “scientists,” “university,” “loans,” and “crime cases,” but several are used imprecisely: “social studies” does not clearly express the intended contrast, and “world data” is unclear. Build a more accurate set of phrases for this topic and check spelling carefully. More precise wording would help communicate the relevant ideas about tuition costs, access to university, and the consequences of fewer science graduates.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

Sentence structures are very limited, and frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction sometimes distort meaning. For example, “Many persons are explain in topic” and “the many people are does not belong in rich families” do not form accurate clauses. The sentence “the scientists are many type of investion and product are lounched” also contains unclear subject–verb relationships. Although the response attempts longer sentences with “because” and “moreover,” these are often joined without reliable grammatical control. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using one clear subordinate clause. Check that each sentence has a subject and correctly formed verb, and use articles and plural forms consistently.
