Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, it is widely recognized that students from many different countries are less likely to choose fields of study that related to science when they are applying for the university. This essay will reveal some of the reasons and relevant effects of this trend.

One of the main reason for this ongoing trend is directly related to learners's interest and aims. It can be noticed that many students are quite interested in less formal subjects. They believe that if they choose their dream college , they will be more successful and involved in the future. For example, one of may relatives was always wanted to be an actor, as he applied for art school he continued his studies and now he is one of the well known actor in my hometown. He always say the his success in his career is caused by his choice that he made when he was young. Consequently, many people think if they choose what they want , they will perform their best. Another obvious reason is that many people believe that professions that related to science are coming with a lot of responsibility and confidence which they may lack.

It is clear the becoming a doctor is far more demanding than becoming an artist. For example, many students feel if they chose scientific fields , the will have less time to entertain and their studies will be much time and effort consuming and may destroy their comfort zones . Hence, many people often chose fields which are less formidable and comfortable.

As any other trends , such trends hve their own outcomesand effects. One of the distinct effect is the negative consequences may arise because of neglecting scientific fields. It is clear that scientific reaserches are playing an important role in improvement of many different aspects of life. By ignoring such fields by learners ,many countries may unable to conduct necessary experiments which eventually make them less developed nations.

In conclusion, causes of students not choosing to study sciencd at university vary. Ranging from ther interests to responisilities related to their future career. Negative outcomes of this trend may lead to further detoriation if suitable solution will not be used to tackle such problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question by giving reasons for students’ choices and describing a possible societal effect. The reasons—personal interests and the perceived demands of science careers—are relevant, and the example of your relative illustrates how choosing a preferred field can lead to success. You also explain that fewer science students could limit research and hinder national development. However, the discussion of effects is much less developed than the causes, and the link between fewer university students and reduced research capacity needs clearer explanation or a specific example. Some claims, such as students believing science will reduce their leisure time, would benefit from further support. Developing the consequences more fully would make the response more balanced and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a discussion of causes, a paragraph on effects, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and signposting such as “One of the main reason,” “Another obvious reason,” and “In conclusion” helps the reader follow the argument. However, the causes occupy substantially more space than the effects, so the progression is not fully balanced. Some links are mechanical or unclear: “It is clear the becoming a doctor…” does not connect smoothly to the preceding point, while “As any other trends” introduces the effects awkwardly. The conclusion repeats the main points but does not clearly synthesise them. Use clearer transitions between claims and examples, and organise each paragraph around one fully developed point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “scientific fields,” “responsibility,” “scientific researches,” and “conduct necessary experiments.” These choices allow you to discuss both career preferences and the wider consequences for society. There are also attempts at more precise or less common wording, such as “formidable” and “deterioration,” although some choices are inaccurate or unnatural in context. For example, “less formal subjects” does not clearly mean subjects outside science, and “responsibility and confidence” is an unclear description of science professions. Spelling and word-form errors—including “reaserches,” “sciencd,” and “responisilities”—also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully so your vocabulary communicates the intended meaning precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if they choose what they want, they will perform their best” and clauses explaining consequences. The overall meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “fields of study that related to science,” where the verb form is incomplete, “One of the main reason,” where singular agreement is needed, and “many countries may unable,” which is missing a verb. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence construction, as in “one of the well known actor” and “It is clear the becoming a doctor.” Review subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and article use, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
