Student answer (Band 4.5)
I do agree with this statement, it is true that students are not choosing to study science at university now a days. students are now more focused for AI based studies or related to foreign certifications. I have my personal life experience my parents wanted me to become doctor but i choosed to do accounting and finance even i never knew what this studies is about. the main reason was only i knew in science there is alot of competition and in pakistan medical test results are not merit based. i was scared regarding this issue. and students knows that this is a generation where technology is way important. everything is digitalized. there are so many effects for society but the most important is doctors will be less. my experience says that students are more focused for business, opening their own business. my of my friend is doctor she choosed science for her parents dream but now she is a baker, she loves to make cakes. in science there are benefits also. in every country doctors have respect. their white coat is a sign of respect.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify plausible causes, including fear of intense competition and concerns about medical-test merit, and you mention a possible social effect: fewer doctors. Your personal examples make the response relevant. However, the task is only partially addressed: the effects on society are barely explained, and the discussion shifts to business interests and your friend becoming a baker without showing broader consequences. The opening says “I do agree with this statement,” although the prompt asks for causes and effects rather than an opinion, so your position and focus are not clearly framed. The response is also 64 words below the required minimum. Develop several distinct effects, explain how they affect society, and support each point with a relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the trend, gives a personal explanation, and then mentions effects and examples. This gives the reader some sense of direction. However, ideas are crowded into one paragraph and the progression is difficult to follow. For example, the discussion moves from AI and foreign certifications to your choice of accounting, then to doctors, business ownership, your friend’s baking, and the respect associated with a white coat. Connections between these points are often missing, and linking words such as “and” and “but” do not clarify the relationships. Use separate paragraphs for causes and effects, and make each paragraph develop one main point with clear transitions and references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general subject, including “competition,” “medical test results,” “digitalized,” “doctors,” and “business.” Some phrases also convey personal experience clearly. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are awkward, such as “focused for AI based studies,” “foreign certifications,” and “their white coat is a sign of respect.” Repetition of “students,” “science,” and “focused” also limits precision. Aim for more natural academic expressions and vocabulary that directly describes causes and social consequences, such as career prospects, access to healthcare, and a shortage of specialists. Check spelling and word forms, including “nowadays” and “a lot.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You communicate the main ideas using mostly simple sentence patterns, and you attempt to connect clauses, for example in “my parents wanted me to become doctor but i choosed to do accounting and finance.” However, the range of structures is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. Examples include missing articles in “become doctor,” incorrect verb forms in “i choosed” and “my friend is doctor,” and agreement problems in “students knows.” Sentence boundaries and capitalization are also inconsistent, as several sentences begin with lowercase letters or run together. Practise accurate past-tense forms, subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation, then add controlled complex sentences to explain cause and effect.
