Student answer (Band 5.5)

The ongoing debate about students rejecting to study science at University has sparked again with new aspects. I firmly believe that there are few reasons behind this indifference as well as the consequences of not studying science varies from time to time.

Starting with elaborating some of the main causes behind the debate, there is a fear of mathematics within students which is leading them to abandon studying science in university, In addition students are not getting proper mentorship from their teacher to overcome this fear, furthermore students have seen the lack of proper lab as well as other equipments which are essential for studying science. Overall the bitter experience from the school is keeping them away to study science at the university. In conclusion public university's Admission test and the cost of private Universities have failed miserably to attract students to study science.

Subsequently, this declining rate of studying science is actually leading to various problems. to begin with we are loosing our potential bright students for this fear of mathematics. Up next we need huge amount of students in this science sector such as engineering, biotechnology, medical sector to achieve our goal properly but we are failing. moreover our country's economy rely very much over the contribution of Garments sector, petroleum sector, pharmaceutical sector etc and to make the smooth functioning of these sectors we need numerous students to make the work done properly, but we are also legging behind to do this properly. Lastly in the economy as well as social structural development of a country depend on various field and we are not propagating a good amount of students that are needed in this development, because students are not studying science at the university.

In conclusion, i have clear stance over having Strong initial must be taken by the government and implementation must be done thoroughly to create a flourished society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question and maintain a clear overall position: fear of mathematics, limited mentorship and facilities, and admission or tuition costs are presented as causes, while shortages of skilled workers and effects on economic development are discussed. These are relevant points, but some are more fully explained than others. For example, the link between weak school experiences and university choices is stated, but would benefit from a specific illustration. The effects section lists sectors such as engineering, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, yet does not explain in detail how fewer science graduates affect them. The final recommendation for government action is also vague and does not directly develop the causes or effects. Explain the links and support key claims with concrete examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for causes and effects, and a conclusion. This gives the reader an overall route through the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical: phrases such as “Starting with,” “Subsequently,” “Up next,” and “Lastly” announce points without always showing how they relate. The causes paragraph also moves from fear and mentorship to facilities, then to admissions and costs, with limited explanation connecting these ideas. Some references, such as “this declining rate” and “these sectors,” are understandable but could be more precise. Group related points and use linking language to express cause, consequence or contrast, rather than relying mainly on sequencing markers.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “mentorship,” “biotechnology,” “pharmaceutical sector,” and “economic development,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but several choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “rejecting to study,” “proper lab,” “smooth functioning,” and “Strong initial.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “equipments,” “loosing,” and “legging,” also reduce precision. Some phrases are vague or repetitive, particularly “properly” and “good amount of students.” Aim for natural academic collocations and precise nouns and verbs; for example, describe a shortage of qualified graduates rather than saying that the country needs a “huge amount” of students.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses explaining causes and consequences, such as “In addition students are not getting proper mentorship… to overcome this fear.” This shows some range, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make sentences difficult to follow. For instance, “the consequences … varies” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “our country's economy rely” also needs agreement. Several sentences run together or are joined with commas, especially in the causes paragraph, and capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent. The conclusion, “i have clear stance over having Strong initial must be taken,” is grammatically unclear. Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then combine ideas with accurate conjunctions and check agreement, articles and punctuation.
