Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many countries, there has been a decline in the number of students in university. Some students may find it challenging and shows no interest about the subject. This essay will discuss the probable reasons behind it.

Students find studying science very intense and challenging. Mainly because, the subject involves a lot of terminologies and memorization. Like for instance, if you study nursing, most of the subjects you take involve science. Not to mention, the time involve in providing research and presenting it as part of your thesis. There's also different branches of science that you have to take inorder to pass the course. It will be detrimental to the society if there's not enough students studying science. One of the reason why is that, there won't be enough career related to science like , engineering, medicine and nursing that is very vital is today's society. Science is also needed in a lot of research like for example, the cure for cancer or the invention of vaccines. With research, they can also invent the newest medical technology that will help the society. Science is it is a way of life.

Student should be encouraged to take science study because, it is in current demand and our future relies mostly in it. On that note, we should promote science study among the youth that there is a good waiting for them if they study science. Innovation is growing and so as science study.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both causes and effects, and the examples of nursing, medical careers, cancer research, and vaccines are relevant. However, the causes are only partly explained: the essay mainly says science is challenging and involves memorisation, without exploring other possible reasons or showing why these factors discourage university applicants. The effects are more developed, but several points repeat the general idea that science is important, and the claim that there will not be enough science-related careers is unclear. The opening also shifts from the specific issue of science enrolment to a decline in university students generally. The response is 9 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop and support the ideas. Explain each cause and consequence more fully and connect examples directly to the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: the response begins with an introduction, moves to reasons and effects, and ends with a recommendation. The reader can generally identify the main points, such as the difficulty of science study and its importance to research. However, the progression within the main paragraph is not consistently clear. Causes and effects are mixed together, and transitions such as “Not to mention” and “On that note” do not always show the relationship between ideas precisely. The final paragraph introduces encouragement and future demand without clearly linking these points back to the effects discussed. Separate the causes from the societal effects into distinct paragraphs, and use clear topic sentences and references so each example supports one main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “terminologies,” “research,” “vaccines,” “medical technology,” and “innovation,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or repetitive, including “science study,” “career related to science,” and “a good waiting for them.” Some word choices make the intended meaning difficult to follow, particularly “Science is it is a way of life.” There are also spelling and form issues such as “inorder” and “involve” where a different form is needed. Aim for more precise academic collocations and vary repeated terms; for example, refer to “science-related degree programmes” or “career prospects” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes mostly straightforward sentence patterns, with some attempts to add detail through clauses and examples. However, the range is limited, and attempts at more complex structures are often faulty. For example, “Some students may find it challenging and shows no interest” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “Mainly because, the subject involves…” is a sentence fragment. Other errors include “the time involve in providing research,” “there's also different branches,” and “Science is it is a way of life.” Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, as in “subject. This essay” and the comma placement in “because, it is.” Practise complete sentences, agreement, and clause construction, then proofread for punctuation and sentence boundaries.
