Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify relevant causes, including students’ preference for better salaries and career prospects and the perceived difficulty of science. You also begin to address social effects through possible gaps in knowledge. However, the response only partially answers the task: the effects are not explained or supported, and the biology example stops mid-sentence (“this would lead to”). The causes are also asserted rather than developed with clear, relevant examples. The response is 55 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the limited coverage and development. To strengthen the answer, explain how reduced science enrolment could affect areas such as healthcare, research, or technological innovation, and complete each example with its consequence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, and a paragraph beginning to discuss effects. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Take biology for example” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is limited because the effects paragraph is unfinished, and the conclusion is absent. Some connections are unclear, particularly “The gap that which may exist between different generations, and the gap in knowledge it self,” where the relationship between the two gaps is not explained. The repeated use of “Take … for example” also makes development feel formulaic. Organise each body paragraph around one main point, explain it, and then show its consequence before moving on.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “major,” “salary,” “detrimental,” and “master,” and the reader can generally understand the intended subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “better alternative,” “science study,” and “amazing appeal.” There are also spelling and word-form problems, including “welling,” “informations,” and “it self,” which reduce precision. Aim for more natural academic phrasing and accurate forms: for example, describe students as being “willing to study science,” refer to “information technology,” and use “scientific disciplines” where appropriate. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish causes from their effects.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex structures, including a relative clause in “Take information technology for instance, which has an amazing appeal” and a conditional construction beginning “if there are not enough students.” However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty or incomplete. Examples include “when compare it with sciences,” “because they it is modern,” and “there is many factors,” which show problems with verb forms, sentence construction, and subject–verb agreement. The final conditional sentence is also left unfinished, so its meaning cannot be completed. Practise building complete sentences with one clear subject and verb, and check agreement and clause structure. More accurate control of these patterns would make your ideas easier to follow.
