Student answer (Band 5.5)
The number of students is decreasing on choosing to study science at university in various nations. It is the rising issue these days and it has significant effects on the society. In this essay I will discuss this perspective thourghly.
First and foremost, it is a alamring issue that pupils are not selecting sicence subject such as engineering, medical and chemistry at university. There are many factors of this phenomenon. One of the most important factos is that pupils are find difficult these subjects; there are very tough compitition in these subjects. Students have to give an exam to enrolled in the sicence subject which is quite difficult. Many student did pass this entrance exam and they lose the motivation to countinue in this field. Furthermore, advent of the social media currently students preference change. They watch social where many young influcencer get rich very quicky without any efforts. Therefore students influcence by social media and the numbers are falling in choosing science subject. Moreover, these days there are also introduces many other subjests and students are now choosing other new courses. Currently market become more compitative.
On the other hand, this phenomenon has many detrimental effectrs on the society. For instance; in future nation will face shortage of the techicnical people and also will face shortage of healthcare workers. If pupils will not choose science subject, society will face shortage of doctors, engineers and scientist. Country will lack in the innovation and it will hard for the nation to compete with other nations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the question: it gives possible causes, including difficult entrance exams, social-media influences, and the availability of other courses, then describes consequences such as shortages of doctors, engineers, and scientists. These points are relevant and the overall direction is clear. However, some ideas are less fully explained than others. For example, the claim that students are drawn away by influencers is stated, but the link between this trend and choosing non-science degrees could be illustrated or explained more precisely. The effects paragraph identifies workforce shortages and reduced innovation, but offers little development or a specific example. Extending these points with clear cause-and-effect reasoning would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, and a paragraph on effects. The progression from reasons to consequences is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “Moreover,” and “On the other hand” help guide the reader. This shows coherent organisation, while the paragraphing is appropriate. To make the flow more natural, avoid relying on formulaic transitions and make the relationship between ideas clearer. For instance, “Moreover” introduces the availability of other courses, but the connection to the earlier points about difficult science subjects could be developed. The effects paragraph would also benefit from a clearer sequence, moving from workforce shortages to their wider impact on healthcare, technology, and national competitiveness.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “entrance exam,” “healthcare workers,” “innovation,” and “compete,” so the main ideas can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices, collocations, and spelling errors make the writing less clear or natural. Examples include “a alamring issue,” “very tough compitition,” “get rich very quicky,” and “the numbers are falling in choosing science subject.” Some terms are also imprecise: “medical” is not parallel with “engineering” and “chemistry” when naming subjects. Build a more accurate range of academic expressions for causes and consequences, and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise vocabulary would help communicate the argument without changing its meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional sentence beginning “If pupils will not choose science subject” and a reason clause introduced by “because” in the discussion of difficult subjects. However, the range is limited, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction recur. For example, “pupils are find difficult these subjects” needs a grammatical pattern such as “pupils find these subjects difficult,” while “Many student did pass this entrance exam” does not express the intended meaning clearly. The conditional “If pupils will not choose” also needs a more suitable tense pattern. These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although the main message remains recoverable. Practise accurate clause structures and vary sentence patterns while checking agreement and tense.
