Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify possible causes—restricted university places and a shortage of knowledgeable science teachers—and mention effects such as reduced science and technology skills. However, the response addresses the question only minimally: the causes are not clearly explained, and the effects are asserted rather than developed with relevant examples. The final “For example” is left unfinished, so there is no supporting example, and the discussion of science being “the source to earn good” is unclear. The response also falls 35 words short of the required minimum, limiting the opportunity to explain both parts fully. Develop each cause-and-effect point with a clear explanation and a specific example, such as how fewer science graduates affect healthcare or technological innovation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic overall shape, with an opening, a paragraph about causes, and a paragraph about effects. Linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “In addition to” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow: the discussion moves from admission marks to teachers without a clear transition, and several sentences repeat the idea that students cannot choose science. Some links are also used inaccurately, such as “In addition to” before a complete clause. The unfinished “For example” disrupts the ending. Group each cause and its explanation together, then use clear transitions to introduce the effects and a complete example.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “science subjects,” “university,” “teachers,” and “technology,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or collocations make meaning unclear. For instance, “merit base results,” “limited in high percentage marks,” and “earn good” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “beign,” “fo,” and “grads.” These issues sometimes strain the reader’s understanding. Build a more precise set of phrases for university admission and social consequences, and check spelling and collocations when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both short statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example, “If a student have no high marks in their science subject.” However, this conditional is incomplete, and the response contains frequent errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. Examples include “some students has,” “The university did not gave,” and “students does not know.” Several fragments, such as “Moreover, the lack of teachers who did not know about science,” also make relationships between ideas hard to follow. Punctuation and spacing around sentence boundaries are inconsistent. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement and use the base verb after “did not.”
