Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response attempts to discuss both causes and effects, but it only minimally addresses the actual question. The prompt asks why too few students choose science; instead, the essay repeatedly discusses students choosing science, including the claim that it is “a main source of money” and that elders encourage it. This reverses the central issue and leaves the causes of low enrolment unexplained. The effects paragraph focuses on overcrowding and job competition, but these points are not clearly linked to a shortage of science students. The conclusion repeats the same unclear framing rather than establishing a relevant answer. To improve, explain plausible reasons for declining interest—such as difficult coursework or limited awareness of science careers—and show specific consequences of that shortage for society.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: the response has an opening, a paragraph about causes, a paragraph about effects, and a brief conclusion. Basic links such as “There are main reasons” and “There are many…effects” help signal the intended sections. However, there is no clear overall progression because the central idea is repeatedly confused: the causes paragraph describes choosing science, while the task concerns not choosing it. Several sentences contain multiple points joined by “and” or “because,” making relationships difficult to follow. The conclusion also repeats rather than summarises a clear argument. Use one focused paragraph for each task part, develop one point at a time, and use clear references and transitions to show how each idea answers the question.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice problems that make the message difficult to interpret. Phrases such as “main source of money,” “easy to learn,” and “fit in society” do not express the intended ideas precisely, while “darastic effects” and “piony of dicussion” are difficult to recognise. The response does make some attempts at topic-related language, including “universities,” “degrees,” and “jobs,” but these terms are not used to explain the shortage of science students accurately. Build a more precise set of expressions for causes and consequences, and check spelling and collocations carefully. For example, distinguish “career prospects” from “source of money” and describe a “shortage of science graduates” rather than general saturation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “who,” but the longer constructions are often difficult to control. For example, the opening sentence combines several ideas without a clear grammatical structure, and “There are main reasons of considering science subjects” has an incomplete or inaccurate pattern. Errors in articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries also occur, as in “this become on one of most highlighted” and the run-on transition “jobs.However.” These problems sometimes make the intended meaning hard to follow. Practise building accurate short sentences first, then combine related ideas with one subordinate clause at a time. Check articles, verb forms, and punctuation when editing.
