Student answer (Band 5.0)

In present scenario, We see not enough students are choosing to study science at university in some countries because of so many reasons. As we know that first reason is that so many people find science subject hard and believe they can not do well in this subject . There are also other reasons why students are not choosing this subject, like many students are interested in other subject and want to explore other things rather than sticking on this particular subject. Apart from this students are not choosing science beacause of low resources in this field of study at university or poor education system in their country.

There are also so many effects of this on a society like if student stop choosing the science it slowly will become the least concerned subject as we know that people follows the trend. Also it can also effect the university faculty if there are not many students there will be no need for many teachers and they can lost their jobs also.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several relevant causes, including students finding science difficult, preferring other subjects, and limited university resources or weak education systems. You also mention possible effects: science may become less popular, and universities may need fewer teachers. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the effects are brief, and there is little explanation of how a reduced science workforce could affect society, such as slowing medical or technological progress. The ideas are mostly asserted rather than supported with examples. The response is 160 words, so it is 90 words below the 250-word minimum; 10 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop each main point with explanation and a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure: the first paragraph discusses causes and the second turns to effects. Linking expressions such as “Apart from this” and “Also” help signal additions, so the reader can follow the main direction. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and several points are joined in long, loosely connected sentences. Repeated openings such as “There are also” and repeated use of “because” make the linking feel mechanical. The reference in “this” in the effects paragraph is also broad, rather than clearly pointing to the shortage of science students. Use separate sentences for distinct ideas, then connect each cause and effect with clearer explanation and reference.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the central ideas, including “resources,” “education system,” “university faculty,” and “trend.” However, the range is limited and some expressions are repetitive or imprecise, such as “so many reasons,” “other things,” and “least concerned subject.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including “beacause,” “effect” where the verb “affect” is intended, and “sticking on this particular subject.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Build a more topic-specific vocabulary for science education and social consequences, and check spelling and collocations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a conditional structure in “if there are not many students.” However, the range remains limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward. For example, “students are not choosing science because of low resources” needs a clearer grammatical construction, while “they can lost their jobs” has an incorrect modal verb pattern; use “they could lose their jobs.” There are also problems with agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “if student stop choosing the science it slowly will become.” Capitalisation and spacing around punctuation are inconsistent. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and conditionals with correct verb forms.
