Student answer (Band 5.0)
Science plays a crucial rule in both our life and society .At the same time it is also true that in some countries students wants to persue degrees they feel intrested in. It might not always be science . Although there are some drawbacks to this development, the advantages outweighs the disadvantages.
One major reason behind it , is that students has the freedom to make decsicions for themself. If they are forced to take a course they are not intrested in , the consiquence might not be fruit full for neihter the individual or the nation . It is very important for the students to be intrested in the field they want to study . Some of them might want to study in litarature, or persue career in acting or become a teacher . All these are needed for a nation to thrive along with engineers and scientists.
Furthermore, if the parents or teachers forced them to study in one particular subject like science, but their mind wants something else , they will never succeed in life. All these pressure will cause them to loose focus on their studies, they willl keep falling behind than other students. They may slip into depression. To avoid all these series of event parents needs to support their children .
In conclusion, studing in science have its own benefit which is undeniable. At the same time our society needs people who are expert in other sectors as well,so that our children could learn about everything not just science.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response engages with the topic and gives a clear view that students should be able to choose fields beyond science. It also offers relevant effects, including students losing focus or experiencing depression if pressured into an unsuitable course. However, the task asks specifically for causes of low science enrolment and effects on society. The main cause discussed is freedom of choice, while the effects focus mostly on individual students; the consequences for society, such as shortages of scientists or slower technological progress, are not explained. The opening claim that other professions are needed is relevant but does not develop these effects. To strengthen the response, address both parts directly and support each with a specific explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs generally keep related points together, and transitions such as “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help signal movement between ideas. However, progression is limited: both body paragraphs mainly repeat the idea that forcing students to study science can harm them, rather than developing distinct causes and societal effects. Some links are unclear, as in “All these are needed for a nation to thrive,” where the reference to the professions is broad. Build a clearer sequence by assigning one paragraph to causes and another to consequences, then use precise references and linking phrases to show how each point follows.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the central ideas, with relevant terms such as “freedom,” “field,” “engineers,” “scientists,” and “depression.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, including “a nation to thrive.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which can distract the reader: “plays a crucial rule” appears to mean “plays a crucial role,” and “fruit full for neither” is not a natural expression. Spelling errors such as “persue,” “intrested,” and “litarature” are noticeable. Aim for accurate topic-specific phrases, for example, “career prospects in science” and “a shortage of qualified researchers,” and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response uses both simple sentences and some attempts at complex structures, including the conditional “If they are forced to take a course…” and the clause beginning “Although there are some drawbacks…”. Meaning is usually recoverable, but errors occur frequently in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction. Examples include “students wants,” “students has,” “the advantages outweighs,” and “parents needs to support.” The sentence beginning “Furthermore, if the parents or teachers forced them…” is also awkwardly constructed, and punctuation spacing is inconsistent. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and maintaining a complete, consistent sentence structure. More accurate control of these patterns would make the argument easier to follow.
