Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify plausible causes, including students’ preference for courses that lead to employment quickly and the perceived difficulty of mathematics and lengthy study. You also mention a possible social effect: a shortage of engineers may slow national development. However, the response addresses the question only minimally: the effects are barely explained, and the example about people becoming designers or lawyers is unfinished. The causes and effects need to be developed with clear explanations and relevant examples. The response also falls short of the required minimum length, leaving major parts of the task unanswered. To improve, explain how fewer science graduates affect areas such as engineering, healthcare, or technological innovation, and support each point with a complete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to group related points: the first paragraph introduces career choices and a possible effect, while the next discusses why students may avoid science. However, the ideas are not arranged into a clear progression, and the relationship between causes and effects is difficult to follow. For example, “every student looking for fast paced process” follows the opening claim without explaining how it connects to the shortage of engineers. The final phrase, “while these,” leaves the response incomplete and disrupts the flow. Use separate paragraphs for causes and effects, and connect each claim to its explanation with clear linking phrases such as “As a result” or “For example.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “employability,” “shortage of engineers,” “development,” and “global market.” These choices show an ability to discuss education and society, but the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or awkward, which sometimes makes the intended meaning less clear. For instance, “fast paced process” does not clearly describe the preference for a shorter route into work, and “straight forwaded” is both misspelled and unsuitable in this context. “Every student” is also repeated where a more measured expression would be more accurate. Build a wider set of topic-specific phrases and check spelling and collocations so your ideas are expressed precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “The majority of students dislike science due to…” and a cause-and-effect statement about engineering shortages. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors frequently interrupt the reading. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are often missing: “global market.for instance” should be separated and punctuated, while the opening begins with a capitalisation error after the full stop. There are also problems with sentence construction, such as “Every student across various countries started simply taking other courses,” which does not clearly express the intended general situation. Practise complete, clearly structured sentences, consistent capitalisation, and accurate punctuation before attempting longer constructions.
