Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent times, students from different countries are choosing every subject except science at universities. This essay will discuss the causes and effects of this on society. However, in my opinion its totally up to their interest.

On the one hand, one of the major causes of youth not choosing science programs could be their keen interest to particular subject or programs. science subjects are difficult in comparison of another programs. For an instance, my friend has chosen Commerce over science because she founds accounts more easier than chemistry. secondly this course requires more time, efforts and practical work whereas other programs does not requires of this much of hard work and efforts

on second hand, it has effected in many ways like due to this trend, there is a shortage of skilled professionals, doctors and researchers. these professionals plays an important role in our daily lives Secondly, fewer people are ready to solve health and environment related problems because this has been a very sensitive case from the starting. For an example, in many hospitals there are a shortage of skilled doctors and people are dying because of it.

in conclusion, students may avoid studying science but making a trend of not choosing science and always going with an easier option is not a permanent solution. This could lead a shortage of scientific professionals and slower their progress in important areas of society. therefore, schools and government should make it little easy for students so that after choosing that subject the interest would not die and even they should encourage students to develop an interest in science from an early age.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question and give a clear overall view: students may prefer other subjects, while reduced science participation can leave society short of specialists. The example of your friend choosing Commerce over science helps illustrate the perceived difficulty of science. However, the causes are less fully developed than the effects: the point about science requiring more time and practical work is stated but not explained in detail. The effects section identifies shortages of doctors and researchers and links them to health and environmental problems, but the hospital example is broad and the claim that people are dying needs clearer support. To strengthen the response, explain the causes and consequences more precisely and develop each example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for causes and effects, and a conclusion that returns to the issue. This makes the overall progression understandable. You also use signposts such as “On the one hand,” “Secondly,” and “in conclusion.” However, some transitions are mechanical or unclear: “on second hand” does not clearly introduce the effects, and “However” in the introduction does not show a clear contrast. Several ideas run together, particularly in the effects paragraph, where sentence boundaries and punctuation are missing. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each claim to its explanation; ensure that pronouns such as “this” have an unmistakable reference.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “skilled professionals,” “researchers,” “practical work,” and “environment related problems.” The examples also show an attempt to use specific terms such as “Commerce” and “chemistry.” However, word choice and collocation are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, as in “keen interest to particular subject,” “more easier,” and “make it little easy.” Some phrases are vague, including “this has been a very sensitive case,” which does not clearly identify the problem. Spelling and word-form control also need attention, for example “founds” and “effected” where “affected” is intended. Build a more precise range of academic collocations and check word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a contrast using “whereas.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries occur across the response. For example, “other programs does not requires” has incorrect subject–verb agreement and verb form, while “these professionals plays” should use a plural verb. The sentence beginning “Secondly, fewer people are ready…” is joined to the next idea without adequate punctuation, and several sentences begin with lowercase letters. Practise accurate clause construction and check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb. More reliable punctuation would also make your meaning easier to follow.
