Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question and give several relevant causes, including the perceived difficulty of science, limited laboratory facilities and teaching expertise, and students’ preference for other careers. You also identify social effects such as shortages of skilled professionals, slower technological development, and reliance on other countries. These points keep the response focused on the task. However, some ideas are asserted rather than explained: for example, the link between fewer science students and teacher unemployment is unclear, and the effects on society are not supported with a specific example. The conclusion mainly repeats the difficulty point and mentions innovation, rather than summarising the range of causes and effects. Develop the connections between each cause or effect and society more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on effects, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “To sum up” help readers follow the broad progression. Within paragraphs, however, ideas are often added mechanically through repeated “Furthermore,” “In addition,” and “Additionally,” rather than linked by clear explanation. Some references are difficult to follow, particularly “it leads to unemployment of teachers,” where the relationship to the shortage of professionals is not made clear. The conclusion also does not bring the main points together. Use fewer repeated connectors and make the relationship between each point explicit, so the progression feels more continuous.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “complex theories,” “laboratories,” “scientists,” “technological development,” and “innovations.” This is enough to communicate the main ideas, and some choices show an attempt to use more specific language. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear. Examples include “found science is challenging,” “declining science subject,” “shortage of professionals have increased,” and misspellings such as “reserchers,” “scientsts,” and “techonologies.” There is also repetition of “cause,” “students,” and “science.” Build accuracy by learning common academic word partnerships and checking spelling, and vary repeated terms where possible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including explanations introduced by “For instance” and clauses linked with “because” or “that.” The main message is generally recoverable, but grammatical control is uneven, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms sometimes make reading difficult. For example, “There are numerous causes for this reason and has many effects it on society” has an incomplete and confused structure; “one of the most crucial cause” has a number-agreement error; and “students may be got fear” uses an incorrect verb construction. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “both questions” and the comma before “while” in the conclusion. Practise accurate basic clauses first, then check agreement and verb patterns in longer sentences.
