Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
These days In many countries, it is observed that only few students are choosing to study science at universities while others are aligning towards non-science courses.
Overall, although there is a considerable demand among the science courses students are aligniong themselves towards the non technical courses. This is due to the complexity of the syllabus in science courses and due to higher fees for science courses such as engineering and medicine, these causes has adverse effects on the society
Firstly, The major cause for this problem is the complexity of which the science courses are designed.Nowadays the students have incorporated themselves with shortcuts and they are not as keen as they were to work hard this pushes them to choose the non technical corses over the science courses. For example a student with less technical knowledge may choose non science courses over the science course as it may be easy for him to clear as the sciences courses are believed to be complex. As a result there is a huge effect on society as the technical students may decrease year by year and there won't be sufficient technical workers in domains like IT, automobile etc which effects directly on the development of the society and the country.
The second major cause for this issue is the higher tution fees in the science courses especially in the domains like engineering and medicine. It has been observed that the tuition fees are touching skies and it is very difficult to afford for the financially disadvantaged students. For an instance a academically capable student may drop out from studies as he cannot afford fees. This is a major concern as this may lead to inequality among the people in the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question by identifying two causes—complex science syllabuses and high tuition fees—and explaining possible social effects, including shortages of technical workers and greater inequality. These are relevant ideas, and the examples of a student choosing an easier course or being unable to afford study help illustrate them. However, the effects are developed less fully than the causes: the first is linked to national development, while the second is stated mainly as a risk of inequality without explaining how fewer science graduates would produce it. The opening also refers to demand for science courses, which is not clearly reconciled with the stated decline in student choice. Develop each cause-and-effect link more explicitly and keep the central position consistent.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on course difficulty, and a paragraph on tuition costs. Sequencing the causes with “Firstly” and “The second major cause” helps readers follow the discussion, and examples are placed alongside the relevant points. However, the overview sentence is crowded and its relationship between demand and student choices is unclear. Some links are mechanical, and the long first body paragraph moves from course difficulty to student motivation and then to workforce shortages without clearly separating those steps. The final paragraph ends abruptly, with no concluding summary. Use clearer topic sentences, make cause-and-effect transitions explicit, and add a brief conclusion that brings the two social consequences together.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “complexity,” “technical workers,” “financially disadvantaged,” and “inequality,” which allows you to discuss education and social consequences. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “a major concern.” However, several choices or collocations are inaccurate or informal: “aligning towards” and “touching skies” do not sound natural in this context, while “non technical corses” contains a spelling error. “Effects” is also confused with “effects” as a verb in “effects directly on the development.” These slips sometimes make the meaning less precise. Aim for natural academic collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; for example, use “choose non-science subjects” and “have a direct effect on development.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “a student … may drop out … as he cannot afford fees” and a relative clause beginning “which the science courses are designed.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “these causes has” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “a academically capable student” uses the wrong article. Several sentences run together or lack appropriate punctuation, particularly the overview and the long first body paragraph. Capitalisation after commas is also inconsistent. Improve control by checking agreement and articles, and divide long sentences into clearer units with accurate punctuation; this will make your range of structures easier to follow.
