Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you identify the perceived difficulty of science and limited career opportunities as causes, then explain that fewer scientists may hinder economic and scientific development. The example about biology graduates in your country supports the employment point, while the Tunisia–Algeria example attempts to illustrate reliance on other countries. However, some ideas are less fully explained than others. In particular, clarify how a shortage of science students leads to economic decline, and make the international example’s relevance more explicit. The claim that science is a main reason for prosperity is broad and needs explanation or evidence. A more developed account of the social effects would make the response more convincing and complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on effects, and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the main direction of the argument. You also use signposting such as “As a result,” “Another contributing factor,” and “In conclusion.” However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and the long opening sentence joins several ideas with commas rather than showing their relationships clearly. The effects paragraph also moves quickly from economic decline to dependence on other countries, so a clearer explanation between these points would improve progression. Use full stops to separate major ideas, and make references such as “this” and “it” more precise so readers can easily identify what they refer to.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “employment positions,” “scientists,” “economy,” and “scientific field,” and you attempt more formal expressions such as “contributing factor” and “consequences.” However, the range is limited by repeated general words and several inaccurate or unnatural choices that can make meaning difficult to follow. For example, “the downgrade of the country's economy” and “the flourishment's main reasons” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “decline in economic growth” and “a key driver of development” would be clearer. Spelling errors such as “aquires,” “descipline,” and “physiciens” also affect accuracy. Build a bank of accurate collocations for discussing education, employment, and social impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including cause-and-effect structures such as “because it leads to the lack of scientists” and a relative clause beginning “which considered kind of scary.” However, some sentence structures are faulty, and punctuation errors make several sentences difficult to process. For instance, the opening sentence runs multiple clauses together, while “science career opportunities is limited” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “which considered kind of scary,” the verb is missing, and the relationship between the clause and its subject is unclear. Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then combine them with accurate subordinate clauses. Check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries during proofreading.
