In many countries not enough students are choosing to study science at university. What are the causes of this? What effects does it have on society?
Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In recent years, there are not enough students who choose to study science at university. From my observation and daily experience, i believe that the foundation of the students are week, they have no much knowledge about science, these are two main reasons that is why students choose subjects instead of science.
First of all, in students who have week basics are always live in fear and they cannot think about their strength they always remind their week points so that is why pupils cannot take addmission in science because people said that science is too harder than arts. For instance, some of the people inspired by people who always teaches them which is difficults and which is not. Many people believes on them but no one focus on their intentions and mistakes.
Second of all, people have no much knowlegde about science if some insitutes would be opened for their guidence and teach them the advantages of science then most of the people will definitly select science for study instead of other subjects as well. if they did not do this it will be very bad for science and country will go down in this field and comming era is only about science. For example, In some countries there are so many organisations are working to clear the road map of education for students and teachs them how science is more reliable then arts as well.
In conclusion, universities should need to provide the proper guidence for students and tell them what is science and what kind of benefits they can get in their future and also starts a campaign for week students for their improvement and I agree with it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify two relevant causes: students’ weak foundations in science and limited knowledge of the subject. You also indicate a possible consequence, saying that the country may “go down in this field” if science is neglected. However, the response only partially addresses the task because the effects on society are not clearly explained or developed; most of the discussion focuses on causes and advice to universities. The position is also difficult to follow in places, and examples such as organisations “working to clear the road map of education” are too vague to support the claims. To strengthen the response, explain specific social effects—for example, shortages of scientific professionals or slower technological development—and develop each cause with a clear, relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “First of all” and “Second of all,” and a conclusion. This gives the reader some guidance. However, progression is uneven: the second body paragraph moves from institutes and guidance to national decline without clearly connecting these points, while the conclusion introduces a campaign for weaker students rather than summarising the main effects. Linking phrases are sometimes mechanical, and references such as “these are two main reasons” are unclear because the ideas are not cleanly separated. Organise the essay around one paragraph for causes and one for societal effects, and use clear topic sentences and links that show how each point follows from the previous one.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some vocabulary relevant to education and science, including “foundation,” “advantages,” “institutes,” and “campaign.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand: “week” for “weak,” “addmission,” “knowlegde,” and “reliable then arts.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “clear the road map of education” and “people believes on them.” These issues fit a response with a limited but minimally adequate vocabulary range. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations, such as “strong foundation in science,” “raise awareness,” and “career opportunities.” Choose words that express the intended meaning directly rather than relying on vague phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences and subordinate clauses, for example, “if some institutes would be opened … then most of the people will definitely select science,” but these structures are often faulty. Errors in agreement and verb forms occur in “the foundation … are weak,” “people … always live,” and “people believes.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, and the opening sentence uses “there are” where a more suitable construction is needed. These frequent errors sometimes make relationships between ideas hard to follow, despite the reader being able to understand the general topic. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “because,” “if,” and “which.” Check subject–verb agreement and capitalisation when editing.
