Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response makes a limited attempt to address the question, but the causes and effects are not clearly separated or explained. It mentions students choosing work to earn money, support their parents, or start a business, which could be relevant causes of avoiding university science. However, it does not explain why science specifically is unattractive, and the effects on society are largely missing. The personal account about not attending university and the friend who did is not connected to wider social consequences. To strengthen the response, identify a few direct causes—such as course difficulty or limited career appeal—and explain specific effects, for example shortages of researchers or slower technological development, with relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response using “First” and “Second,” and the reader can identify a shift from general comments to personal experience. However, the progression is difficult to follow because ideas are repeated and their relationship to the task is unclear. For example, the points about earning money, helping parents, and leaving the country recur without being grouped into a clear explanation of causes or effects. The final paragraph about a friend’s university experience also feels disconnected from the preceding discussion. Use separate paragraphs for causes and societal effects, and connect each main point to its explanation with clear, accurate linking phrases rather than repeating the same idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on words such as “some,” “money,” “country,” and “study.” This limits the ability to express the topic precisely: the response does not have clear terms for science education or its consequences for society. Some phrases are difficult to interpret, including “my heart is leave the country” and “earned everything in his parents.” There are also spelling and word-form problems, such as “mony” and “inois,” which make meaning less clear. Build a small set of topic-specific expressions, such as “science graduates,” “career prospects,” and “skills shortage,” and practise using them in accurate phrases. The ideas about work and family support provide a starting point for more precise vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts simple sentences and some longer clauses, often linked with “because” and “and,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, and articles frequently make the meaning hard to follow. For example, “some country is not enough student are choosing” has problems with number and sentence construction, while “some students have move the work” uses an unclear verb form. The sentence “He don't interested in leave the country” also shows problems with auxiliary use and clause structure. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add one reason or result using “because” or “so.” Check verb forms and singular/plural agreement when editing.
