IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In many countries not enough students are choosing to study science at university. What are the causes of this? What effects does it have on society?
Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 4.5)
Its because university cant provide such facilities to students like which they can have in research centers like labortaries or become a assistant of a scientist and some time if you lucky you become a member of research team where they can learn more things and do some practicles with their own hand then the universities where they have to take permission before any test or research. So the main thing of this change according me is freedom and conservative enviroment.
Students wants some enviroment like where they can learn anything and perform such events which are related to science so thats why they promt this rather than universities.
And other thing of this change is due this maybe which i given below ,
Due to this modern era changed our world vrery fast like modern tech create more options for students so that why student prefer to become specialist in this field. The modern technolgy have very high scope of employments thats also a very big reson of this formation and other thing is that its also very easy in learn and flexible in adoptability.
Other reason of this chnage is modern technology have ability to research and give some scientific ideas like AI robotic thing have ability to think so the students are worried about their future like employment. So they choose to learn Artificial intelligence rether then science.
Its not like they are loosing their interest in science its happend because universities provide so many options in sceince. For exampel if some one is ineterested in physics so university give him/her more options related to physics like applied physics and constructuons. Its not like they need to choose science or some what. they have many options like they can select to become specialist in particular subject of relevent field.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You attempt to explain why students may avoid science degrees, especially by referring to limited university research facilities, the appeal of practical work in research centres, and the perceived employment prospects of technology fields such as AI. These are relevant starting points. However, the response only partially answers the question: the effects on society are not clearly explained. Most of the discussion gives possible causes, while the final paragraph shifts to the range of science specialisations without showing what this trend means for society. Some claims, such as technology being easier to learn, are also asserted rather than supported with a clear example. To strengthen the response, separate causes from effects and explain consequences such as shortages of researchers or slower scientific progress, with a relevant example for each main idea.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to organise the response into paragraphs, and phrases such as “other thing” and “other reason” signal that you are adding points. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the paragraphs do not clearly correspond to the two parts of the question. The opening moves from university facilities to freedom, then the next paragraph introduces technology and employment, while the final paragraph appears to contradict the idea that students are losing interest. Connect each paragraph to one clear central point, and use a cause paragraph followed by an effects paragraph. Some linking phrases are repetitive or unclear, particularly “due this maybe which i given below,” so use simpler, more precise transitions and make references such as “this change” explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “research centers,” “scientist,” “employment,” “Artificial intelligence,” and “applied physics,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, such as “modern technology,” “options,” and “other thing.” Frequent spelling errors—including “labortaries,” “enviroment,” and “technolgy”—and imprecise combinations such as “high scope of employments” sometimes make the intended meaning harder to understand. Build a more accurate set of phrases for discussing education and social consequences, and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe “strong employment prospects” or a “shortage of scientific expertise” rather than relying on broad, repeated wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences and use some subordinate clauses, for example, “where they can learn more things and do some practicles,” and “because modern tech create more options.” These attempts show some range, but complex sentences are often difficult to control, and errors can make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “Students wants,” “the modern technolgy have,” and “its also very easy in learn”; these show problems with subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “become a assistant” and the long opening sentence. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine related ideas with accurate clauses and punctuation.
