Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In different countries students are not prefer to study science at university. it can be due to many causes which include science subjects are more difficult and lack of practical exposure at institutes. science subjects are very crucial for technological progress and economic development, however, problems can be addressed by improving teaching methods as well as with financial support to the students and teachers.

first and foremost, major reasons are poor faculty at institutes who do follow olden teaching methods and poor experiment laboratories. As a result, students lost their interest and do not want to do complex calculations and boring experiments.

To address these issues, government should invest in building modern laboratories and provide scholarship to the science students as well as hire qualified teachers and provide them advance training on modern teaching methods. so that countries can produce more scientist and can have more development in the technology field. it will also help to boost economy.

In conclusion, It is very true that universities have very less enrollment for science students as compare to other subjects. there are multiple causes behind it, this includes having poor laboratories at university and old teaching methods and less financial aid, consequently, students find science subjects boring and they lost their interest. However, these issues can be resolve by government with some strategies like providing financial aid and spend money on teachers training methods and introducing advance laboratories.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify relevant causes, especially outdated teaching, inadequate laboratories, and limited financial support, and you suggest plausible responses such as scholarships and teacher training. However, the task asks about effects on society, while most of your response discusses solutions. The brief claims that science shortages hinder technological progress and economic development are relevant, but they are not explained or supported with an example. This leaves a major part of the question only partially addressed, and the ideas that are included remain under-developed. The response is also 14 words below the required minimum. To strengthen your answer, explain specific social consequences—for example, fewer skilled researchers or slower development of medical technology—and support them with a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to causes, proposed actions, and a conclusion. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “first and foremost” and “as a result” signal relationships between ideas. However, the progression is not fully clear because the paragraph beginning “To address these issues” shifts to solutions, which are not directly requested, while the effects on society receive little development. The conclusion repeats the causes and solutions rather than bringing together an explanation of both causes and effects. Some linking is also mechanical, and sentence boundaries and capitalisation make the flow less smooth. Organise the body around the two parts of the prompt and use clear links between each cause and its societal consequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “technological progress,” “economic development,” “scholarship,” and “modern laboratories,” so the main subject is generally clear. There is also an attempt to vary wording with phrases such as “lack of practical exposure” and “qualified teachers.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, including “olden teaching methods,” “poor experiment laboratories,” and “more development in the technology field.” Repetition of “poor,” “science,” and “students” also limits flexibility. These choices do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Build a more accurate range for describing educational provision and social outcomes, and check collocations—for example, use “outdated teaching methods” and “well-equipped laboratories.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “however” and a result clause beginning “As a result.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors occur across verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. Examples include “students are not prefer,” “students lost their interest,” and “these issues can be resolve”; these should use correctly formed verbs. There are also run-on or fragment-like constructions, such as “so that countries can produce more scientist,” and inconsistent capitalisation after full stops. These problems make some sentences awkward and reduce accuracy. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb, then review tense, agreement, and punctuation, especially when joining clauses.
