Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, many countries across the globe do not have sufficient number of students choosing science subjects at university level. It is widely believed that this trend has become increasingly significant in all the modern societies of the world. There can be different factors bringing this change and it can have many detrimental impacts on the society. This essay will discuss both the causes of insufficient students in science related fields and the effects it has on the society backed up by my own point of view.
To begin with the causes of not having enough students in science departments, the complexity of the concepts is the most significant factor. For instance, most of the students consider science subjects too hard for their caliber and think that their capabilities are not enough for understanding the concepts of science. In addition, shifting of interests is another considerable factor for the trend mentioned above. As a lot of students in the recent era tend to atudy art, literature and history. Even in the asian countries like Pakistan and India, students believe that they need to give more importance to their culture instead of the recently launched areas of study.
Considering the effect that this trend brings to the society, low rate of development is one major impact. For example, all the useful equipments and applications that have simplified our tasks, made our journeys easier and have made our defence stronger, belong to the developments related to science. Not having enough skilled individuals will harm every single field. This may lead to the slow researchs and not being able to catch the pace of the developments all around due to lack of skilled individuals in science.
in conclusion, although there are many considerable factors behind the students not choosing science subjects and it can have many detriments to the society. In my personal perspective, the the students should atleast try to consider sceince subjects hoping that they may develop any interest in this departments. All the areas of study should be given importance and nothing should be set completely aside. There should be enough skilled personnels in every field including arts as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the question and gives a clear overall position: it identifies perceived difficulty and changing interests as causes, then links a shortage of science graduates to slower development and research. The examples of students choosing arts subjects and the contribution of science to equipment, travel and defence are relevant. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. The claim that students in Pakistan and India prioritise culture over newer fields is unclear and needs a more precise explanation or support. Likewise, the effects could be developed by showing how slower research would affect areas such as healthcare or industry. A more direct, consistently reasoned explanation of each cause and consequence would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for causes and effects, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “To begin with,” “In addition,” and “Considering the effect” helps readers follow the main stages. Overall progression is clear, but some connections are mechanical or imprecise. The sentence beginning “As a lot of students…” is a fragment and does not connect smoothly to the preceding point. The reference to “the trend mentioned above” is understandable but general, while the conclusion repeats the idea of factors and effects rather than drawing the discussion together. Improve cohesion by linking each example explicitly to its claim and using clearer references, while varying transitions rather than relying mainly on formulaic openings.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is an adequate range for discussing the topic, including terms such as “complexity,” “capabilities,” “skilled individuals,” and “development.” The writer also attempts more formal expressions, for example “detrimental impacts” and “considerable factor,” though some combinations are not natural or precise. Phrases such as “low rate of development,” “slow researchs,” and “belong to the developments related to science” weaken clarity; more accurate collocations would make the argument sound more fluent. Spelling and word-form slips, including “atudy,” “sceince,” and “equipments,” are noticeable but the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Aim for precise topic vocabulary and check spelling, plural forms, and collocations during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex forms, including clauses with “although,” “that,” and “due to,” and most ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors occur in both sentence construction and punctuation. “As a lot of students in the recent era tend to…” is an incomplete sentence, and “there are many considerable factors … and it can have” has an unclear subject relationship. Article and agreement control also need attention in phrases such as “do not have sufficient number” and “the students should.” Capitalisation and sentence boundaries are inconsistent, particularly at the start of the conclusion and around “science.Not.” To improve accuracy, check that every clause forms a complete sentence and that subjects, articles, and punctuation are controlled.
