Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both parts of the question: you identify perceived difficulty and university costs as causes, then discuss shortages of doctors, nurses and engineers and reduced medical research as effects. These points are relevant, and the examples of physics, chemistry and biology help illustrate why students may be discouraged. However, the explanations are often brief or unclear. For instance, the claim that science “is not memorable quickly” needs explaining, and the link between fewer science graduates and “traffic” at hospitals is difficult to understand. The conclusion repeats the main points rather than drawing them together. Develop each cause-and-effect link more clearly and use specific, plausible examples to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on effects and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Secondly” and “On other hand” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, connections between some ideas are unclear, particularly the move from science graduates to hospitals facing “traffic,” and the reference to “their centers” has no clear antecedent. Linking expressions are sometimes mechanical, and the causes paragraph contains several points without a clear hierarchy. Use topic sentences that state the paragraph’s main idea, then explain and support it in a logical order. Check that pronouns and references clearly identify the people or institutions being discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “shortage,” “professionals,” “development” and “research,” and you refer to specific fields such as physics and chemistry. However, the range is limited and many word choices, collocations and spellings make parts of the response difficult to understand. Examples include “science subjects are get hardworking,” “traffic of their centers” and “research any medisions.” Several key terms are also misspelled, such as “sacience,” “proffesonal” and “instituate.” Aim to learn accurate phrases for discussing education and society, and check spelling carefully. Prefer clear, natural wording over attempting expressions whose meaning is uncertain.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use some simple sentences and attempt longer structures with reasons and examples, such as “because that subject format is hard” and “If students do not study science, society will…” However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction and basic forms occur frequently enough to make several ideas hard to follow. Examples include “A number of countries students does not prefer,” “science are difficult subjects,” and “country not slove any critical situations.” Articles, subject–verb agreement, verb forms and sentence boundaries need particular attention. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with “because,” “if” and “as a result.” Proofread each sentence to ensure it has a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
