Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question and maintain a relevant focus on why students avoid science and what this means for society. The explanation that science requires strong prior grades, curiosity and practical commitment gives a plausible cause, while the discussion of vacancies being filled by overseas workers identifies a possible social effect. The university cut-off example supports the entry-barrier point. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others: the claim that science demands “high IQ” is asserted rather than explained, and the US example makes broad claims about Americans and foreign workers without showing how this affects society beyond filling roles. Develop the consequences more precisely, such as effects on innovation or essential services, and clarify the causal links between points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for causes and effects, and a concluding summary. The reader can follow the main progression, and examples are placed alongside the relevant points. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and also shows some features of stronger progression. However, the repeated openings “Discussing the reasons,” “Explaining it further,” and “Discussing the impacts” make cohesion mechanical, while several long sentences contain multiple ideas that are difficult to track. References such as “these roles” and “this void places” are not always clear. Use a wider range of linking methods, divide complex explanations into clearer sentences, and ensure each pronoun points unmistakably to its referent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “specialized knowledge,” “hands-on experience,” “cut-off score,” and “specialized roles.” These choices show an effort to discuss education and employment beyond basic terms. However, inaccurate word choice and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning awkward: “inefficient number” does not mean a low number, “void places” is unnatural, and “over took the seats” is not an appropriate way to describe filling vacancies. Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “decent level of pre-requisites.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than more elaborate wording, and check spelling and word forms, including “fulfilled” and “overseas.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “as,” “which,” and “that,” and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction. For example, “the field of science demand” should have a singular verb, and “Americans did not had” uses an incorrect verb form after “did.” In “these roles acts,” the subject and verb do not agree; “it is satisfied by skilled foreigners” also has an unclear grammatical reference. Long sentences sometimes combine several clauses without clear control. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and break explanations into shorter sentences while retaining a mix of structures.
