Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify two relevant causes—students may prefer arts or commerce, and they may see science as difficult—and you mention societal effects such as slower research and a shortage of scientists. However, these points are only briefly explained, and the opening promises “advantages and solution” rather than clearly setting out the causes and effects requested. The conclusion also shifts to recommending that more students study science, without fully summarising the effects. The response is 243 words, seven words below the 250-word minimum; the 26 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop each cause and effect with a clear explanation or specific example, and keep the response focused on both parts of the question.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on effects, and a conclusion. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow, particularly in the opening, where “However” and “advantages and solution” do not establish a clear direction. Linking words such as “Firstly,” “second cause,” and “Moreover” are attempted, but connections are sometimes inaccurate or abrupt. The effects paragraph contains a broken phrase (“there are directly e impact”), which interrupts the flow, and the conclusion introduces ideas without clearly tying them back to the discussion. Use one paragraph for each task part, order points clearly, and connect each explanation to its main idea.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “job opportunities,” “career opportunities,” “researchers,” “technology,” and “shortage of skilled scientists.” These choices help communicate the general subject, and there is some attempt to vary wording. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make meaning unclear, such as “science is difficulted subject,” “do not accept science,” and “medical, technological and also IT processes.” Spelling errors including “anf,” “madical,” and “mah” also reduce clarity. Build a more accurate set of phrases for discussing education and social consequences, and check spelling and word forms. For example, use “regard science as difficult” and “medical and technological advances” rather than the less natural phrases in the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example, “If parents force them to choose science…” and “If student does not choose science…”. This shows an effort to express reasons and consequences. However, control is inconsistent: errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation frequently make sentences difficult to interpret. Examples include “science is difficulted subject,” “many countries are being chosen not more students,” and “Society may face a shortage…” following an incomplete sentence. Capitalisation and comma use are also inconsistent, especially around “If.” Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses with correct forms, such as “If students do not choose science, society may face…”.
