Student answer (Band 5.5)

Science is one of the hardest subject to study as compares to others and it is not suitable for everyone .One of the main cause is is that it required alot hardwork and willpower.Less people taking science will make effect the country in long term because there will be shortage of people who will do research and new developnment.

Science is most difficult but on the other hand is very intresting but people are affraid to tak science because they fear that they wont be able to get there degree .Another reason is that many people has very week concept in science and they didnt tried to work on it in there previous studies.Less people taking science will create many consequences.

One of the main consequences will be that there will be shortage of researchers and scientists in few years as a results there will be the shortage of people who will do research and in the invention of new things , so we will have to depends on the forigners students ,researchers or scients to come to our coutry and do the work for us .This will cause the society to suffer because there will be less researchers and scientist. THis will also effect our medical industry and hospital when there will be shortage of good doctors and pharmacist to develop good medicine and cure people.

In conclusion less people taking science will cause major consiquences whereas the major effect will be the shortage of inteligent scients and researches in every industry and mainly our medical industry will get major drawback.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both parts of the question: you suggest that science is demanding and that students may lack confidence or a strong foundation, then describe possible effects on research and medicine. These points are relevant, and the examples of researchers, doctors and pharmacists help connect the issue to society. However, the causes are only briefly explained, and the effects repeat the idea of a shortage of scientists without exploring wider consequences, such as slower innovation or reliance on imported expertise. The conclusion restates the main effect rather than drawing the discussion together. To strengthen the response, explain how each cause influences students’ choices and develop distinct social effects with specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, discussion of causes, a paragraph on consequences and a conclusion. This gives the reader some overall organisation. However, progression is limited: the shortage of researchers is repeated several times, and the second paragraph moves from causes to consequences without a clear transition. Linking phrases such as “on the other hand” and “as a result” are used, but connections between ideas are sometimes unclear or mechanical. For example, the sentence about relying on foreign researchers is followed by another sentence repeating that society will suffer from fewer researchers. Group each cause and its explanation together, then organise the effects in a clear sequence and use referencing to avoid repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “researchers,” “scientists,” “medical industry,” “pharmacist” and “invention,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repeated, especially “shortage” and “less people taking science.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as “developnment,” “intresting,” “scients” and “drawback,” which can make the reader pause. Some combinations are unnatural, including “hardest subject to study” and “depends on the foreigners students.” Build a more precise set of phrases for causes and effects, and check spelling and collocations carefully. For example, use “demanding course of study” and “rely on international researchers.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a cause-and-effect structure beginning “This will cause the society to suffer because…”. However, control is inconsistent, and frequent errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and verb forms sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “Science is one of the hardest subject,” “it required alot hardwork,” and “many people has very week concept.” The sentence beginning “One of the main consequences” also runs several ideas together, making its structure hard to track. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and complete sentence patterns, then use shorter sentences to express each effect clearly. Once these are reliable, add complex clauses and check punctuation.
