Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both parts of the question: you give reasons for low science enrolment, including perceived difficulty, the time and effort required, and students’ belief that other subjects offer better jobs, then describe possible effects such as fewer doctors, engineers and scientists and slower technological development. These points are relevant, but they are mostly listed rather than explained or supported with specific examples. The effect on society is especially brief, and the conclusion repeats the difficulty explanation without summarising the effects. The opening also mentions university fees, but this cause is not developed later. To strengthen the response, explain how each cause influences students’ choices and develop one or two social consequences with a concrete example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on effects and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “As a result” and “Therefore” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is uneven: the introduction introduces cost, but the body does not return to it, while the conclusion focuses only on difficulty. Some links are mechanical or unclear, and the effects paragraph moves quickly from workforce shortages to technological development without fully showing the connection. Improve cohesion by grouping each cause with its explanation, using clear references to earlier points, and ensuring the conclusion reflects both parts of the discussion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “science subject,” “job opportunities,” “scientists,” “technological development” and “medical,” so the reader can identify the main subject and ideas. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make meaning difficult to follow. For example, “not much to sufficient learner’s” and “Scientists searcher technological development” are unclear, while “fever people” appears to be an incorrect word choice. There are also spelling and collocation problems, such as “seasons” for reasons and “a lot practice.” Build a more reliable set of phrases for causes and consequences, and check spelling, word forms and natural combinations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a cause-and-effect structure in “As a result, many students prefer easier subjects” and a conditional sentence beginning “Without enough science graduates.” However, sentence structures are often faulty, and errors frequently make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Examples include “The cause of this situation students are not interested,” “they have a no money,” and “There are less doctors engineer scientists in the futures.” Subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals and sentence construction need particular attention. Practise building accurate basic sentences first, then combine them with because, although and as a result. Careful proofreading for complete clauses and agreement will improve clarity.
