Student answer (Band 5.0)
In many countries , the science department have a lesser numbeer of student . This essay will discus the leading factors to this and the impact on the society.
The reason for poor number of science student in universities are as a result of the broad aspect of science courses. Many student run away from styding science because they feel its complicated, demanding and requires alot of time. Most scicence courses requires years of schooling to complete. For example the medical profession, especially the doctors. Seven years of life plus and extra 2 years for housemanship, this in turn produces fear leading to student venturing in other cources. Also it believed that those in medical field are paid poorly, hence interest to study science and diminished. Another signicant cause is individual dreams and goal. Different individuals have personal interest in other subjects, and most of the those not include science. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both parts of the question by identifying possible causes—such as the perceived difficulty and length of science courses, career preferences, and pay—and by noting reduced research and shortages in medicine as effects. However, the response only partially develops these points: the claim that science professionals are poorly paid is not explained, and the link between technology careers and fewer science students is unclear. The effects section is especially brief, with little explanation of how reduced research or medical staffing would affect society. The conclusion is cut off and does not clearly summarise your answer. The response is also 15 words below the required minimum. Develop each main idea with a clear explanation and a relevant example, then complete the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on effects, and an attempted conclusion. This helps the reader identify the two parts of the task. Within the causes paragraph, however, several points are placed together without clear development, and the shift from long science courses to pay and then technology is abrupt. Linking phrases such as “For example” and “Also” provide some connection, but the progression is sometimes mechanical, and “with this trend” does not clearly show how the preceding idea leads to the stated effect. The final sentence is incomplete, weakening the overall ending. Use separate, focused paragraphs for causes and effects, and connect each explanation explicitly to its main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “science courses,” “medical profession,” “research,” “discoveries,” and “scarcity,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or awkward, such as “poor number of science student,” “broad aspect of science courses,” and “interest to study science and diminished.” Frequent spelling errors—including “numbeer,” “styding,” “scicence,” and “reasech”—also make the writing less fluent and can distract the reader. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe a “low number of students” and say that interest “has declined”; these choices communicate your ideas more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentence forms, including “Many student run away from styding science because they feel its complicated, demanding and requires alot of time,” and use examples to extend points. However, the range remains limited, and errors in agreement, articles, sentence construction, and punctuation occur frequently. For example, “the science department have” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “Most scicence courses requires” also mismatches the plural subject and verb. The opening sentence has awkward spacing around punctuation, and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with clauses using “because,” “although,” or “which.” Check singular/plural agreement and ensure every sentence has a complete main clause.
