Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, undergraduates around the world losing their interest in science and technology. Pupils are opting other than science subjects as their majors in major countries in the world. What possible reasons are there for such decline in interest and what impact does it have on the community?. In this essay I will discuss the reasons and effects of students not choosing science as their majors.
First let us discuss the causes, pupil more want to remain in their comfortzone that's why they go for easy subjects. Undergraduates are more interested in technical fields than research subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Biology. They are opting arts, music, culture and history more. This is because they are more interested in a field that will earn them money instead of just doing research which will not guaruntee them money or Job. In past students used to chose science subjects because their parents want them to but now students want to go after what please them.
Secondly, modern world is a global world and students are more interested in doing business. So, they simply choose easy subject in order to get a graduate degree and then start their own business. To get to a high ranked institution many students apply their under sports qouta this is also reducing the number of students opting science as their field.
On the other hand, there are some serious impacts of this trend if it continues. Less pupil in the field of science is equal to less research which means decline in reseach and development. There will be no scientists to solve world challanges. If there are lower number of biologists then who will fight for deadly diseases and viruses. It will slow down the whole world. It will compromise the qualit of life around the world.
In conclusion, lack of interest of students and parents guidance is causing decline in the count of students in science and technology. This will impact the whole world with depriciated quality of life. I believe that with proper guidance and motivation students will again start chosing science and their field.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both causes and effects, and the response stays focused on why students avoid science and what society may lose. The points about choosing subjects perceived as easier or more financially rewarding are relevant, as is the concern that fewer researchers could slow progress against diseases. However, several claims are asserted rather than explained: the link between sports quotas and fewer science students is unclear, and the effects on society are mostly repeated as reduced research and lower quality of life. The conclusion introduces parental guidance, but this cause is not developed in the main discussion. Develop fewer points with specific explanations or examples, and make the relationship between each cause or effect explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two paragraphs on causes, a paragraph on effects, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “First,” “Secondly,” and “On the other hand” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weak: the move from students seeking business degrees to sports quotas is abrupt, and the effects paragraph moves quickly from research to diseases and quality of life without showing the links. Some transitions are mechanical, and the opening repeats the question rather than establishing a concise position. Group related ideas more clearly, use referencing to connect consequences, and ensure each paragraph develops one central point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “research and development,” “scientists,” “deadly diseases,” and “quality of life.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, which sometimes makes the reader pause. Examples include “remain in their comfortzone,” “technical fields than research subjects,” and “fight for deadly diseases”; these do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling errors such as “guaruntee,” “reseach,” and “challanges” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise vocabulary for university study, career prospects, and social consequences, and check spelling and collocations during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences and use clauses to explain causes and consequences, for example, “This is because they are more interested in a field that will earn them money.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the response difficult to read. The opening sentence lacks a finite verb (“undergraduates around the world losing”), while “pupil more want” and “students used to chose” show problems with agreement and verb forms. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, as in the question-like sentence ending “community?.” Aim first for accurate simple sentences, then add subordinate clauses; check subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles, and punctuation.
