Student answer (Band 5.5)
In certain states pupils are not selecting science subjects for their studies at the university. There are various causes of this and have many adverse effects on the society.
Students are not choosing science for their higher studies becuse most of the universities do not accomodate sudents acurately about the subject. They also seen their friends failling these subjects because they consider them difficult to handle. One major cause of this could be the high competitions in the job market and among students For instance, many top ranked universities such as Agha Khan, only select those candidates who have strong references instead of seeing what they are capabale. Moreover, the same situation also happen in the job market. Those who have really strong references got the jobs while those who worked really hard left with nothing.
Furthermore, Due to unfair selections in big universities hard working students are left behind with demotivation. Universities lack good teachers and students fail their exams and spend much more extra time on their degree rathar than the acutal degree time. This has significant effect on the country's economy and growth becuase young generations play vital role in any country's growth and economy. When talented students got rejected from their dream instuitute, they lose hope and face severe demotivation and sometimes it can effect their mental health.
In conclusion, Students do not choose science subjects due to unfair university systems and lack of good teachers. This could effect the economy and yound minds that later teach generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both causes and effects, and your position is clear: you attribute low science enrolment to university selection practices and inadequate teaching, then connect this to students’ motivation, mental health, and the economy. These points are relevant, but the response only partly develops the task. The explanation that students avoid science because friends fail it is brief, and the example about references in university and job selection is not clearly linked to the choice of science specifically. Effects are also asserted rather than explained in detail; for example, the link between rejected applicants and national economic growth needs a clearer chain of reasoning or a concrete example. Develop each cause and effect more fully and keep examples directly focused on science study.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, separate discussion of causes and effects, and a conclusion. The progression from university-related causes to consequences is generally understandable, and connectors such as “For instance,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” help signal relationships. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. The opening of the second body paragraph, “Furthermore, Due to unfair selections,” combines a transition with a cause without making the relationship between the previous point and the new effects precise. The conclusion also repeats the main points without drawing them together. Use clearer topic sentences to distinguish causes from effects, and make references such as “this” explicit so readers can follow each connection.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “job market,” “demotivation,” “economy,” and “mental health,” which helps communicate the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less clear. For example, “accommodate students accurately about the subject” does not express the likely idea of informing or advising students, while “high competitions” and “strong references” are imprecise in context. Spelling errors such as “becuse,” “acurately,” and “instuitute” are also noticeable. Aim for precise academic collocations and check spelling carefully; for instance, explain whether universities provide inadequate guidance, or whether selection is perceived as unfair, rather than relying on vague wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a cause-and-effect construction beginning “When talented students got rejected…” and a sentence explaining the effect on the economy. However, control is uneven, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction sometimes make the reader work to understand the point. Examples include “They also seen their friends,” “the same situation also happen,” and “students are left behind with demotivation.” The opening sentence also has an incomplete construction: “There are various causes of this and have many adverse effects.” Practise forming complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement and tense consistency. More accurate complex sentences would let you express the relationships between causes and consequences more clearly.
