Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you identify cost, time demands, and limited guidance or interest as causes, then describe shortages of scientists, doctors, engineers, and laboratory staff as effects. These points are relevant and your overall response is clear. However, the causes are more developed than the effects: the consequences are mostly listed, with little explanation of how shortages affect society, such as slowing research or limiting access to healthcare. The example about families in Africa choosing other fields is relevant, but its connection to the stated causes could be explained more precisely. To strengthen the response, develop each main idea with a clear consequence or specific example and make the social impact more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on effects, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Additionally,” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the main stages, and the causes paragraph moves from cost and time to guidance and interest. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, several transitions feel formulaic, and links between ideas are sometimes unclear—for example, the sentence about low-income families follows the cost point but is awkwardly connected. The conclusion also repeats earlier points rather than synthesising them. Use clearer references and connect each example directly to the claim it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “higher education,” “science education,” “scientists,” and “technologically aware persons,” and you attempt more specific terms such as “geology” and “laboratory assistants.” However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “problem,” “society,” and “students,” while several inaccurate word choices or forms make meaning less clear. Examples include “patients” for the intended idea of patience, “science stream,” and “sortage” for shortage. Phrases such as “achievement in the science field” and “lower number of doctors” are also unnatural. Build a more precise set of collocations for causes and consequences, and check spelling and word forms carefully so your ideas are expressed more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect structures such as “As a result” and a concession in the conclusion. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and verb forms sometimes make the reader work to understand the point. For example, “In certain nation not sufficient students are preferring” has problems with the noun phrase and verb construction, while “communities can suffers” and “society can decrease the achievement” show errors in agreement and sentence structure. The opening sentence is also difficult to parse because its clauses are not joined correctly. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses; proofread each sentence for agreement, articles, and complete clause structure.
