Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many students are not choosing science to study at university as many find it difficult to understand and concepts of the previous grade might not be cleared as well. Studying Science is basically a practical learning as well as conceptual learning. Memorization is also quite a thing which require. And to study that, one must have concepts of Mathematics cleared as it is required too. If students do not opt Science at University then it may led to shortage of Scientists, Doctors, Engineers, Nurses, Pharmists, etc. who are very important to us. To research on something, to treat, to build whether a software or hardware, to nurture or to provide medicines all are equally important. They help us function better whether from health or through innovation.

We can take example of whole Covid Pandemic Situation, I remember that at time Doctors and nurse were less in compare with the number of people who were going to get treated. It got quite difficult to manage the situation and many people died because they were not enough Medical assisants. And Lockdown happen everything was shut then people switched to learning and working online which was possible only because there were engineers who developed those apps which work like that.

From this real situation, we can take an example how much we need our future to be indulge in Science and why this is important. Therefore, we need good teacher who maintains the interest of the student and keep them motivated and encourage to do and to keep move foward.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the question: it suggests that science is difficult and depends on strong prior understanding, then explains that fewer students could mean shortages of medical and technical professionals. The examples of the pandemic, healthcare staffing and engineers supporting online work make the societal effects relevant. However, the causes are less fully developed than the effects: the discussion focuses mainly on difficulty and prerequisite knowledge, without explaining why these factors discourage students or considering other causes. The final recommendation about teachers is relevant but brief and does not clearly connect back to the causes. Develop each main point with a clearer explanation and a specific example to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The ideas follow a generally understandable order: the opening discusses why students may avoid science, the next section describes possible shortages, and the pandemic example illustrates their impact. This gives the response an overall coherent arrangement. Some links between ideas are less clear, however. For example, “To research on something, to treat, to build…” presents a list without showing how each item supports the central point, and “From this real situation” refers broadly to the preceding examples. Paragraphing is limited, with several distinct points grouped together. Use separate paragraphs for causes, effects and the conclusion, and connect examples explicitly to the claim they support rather than relying mainly on “And,” “Therefore” and similar transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses relevant topic vocabulary, including “Scientists,” “Doctors,” “Engineers,” “innovation,” “Lockdown” and “Medical assistants,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “conceptual learning” and “shortage.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “concepts … might not be cleared,” “Pharmists,” “in compare with,” and “future to be indulge in Science.” Spelling and capitalization are inconsistent, as in “foward” and the unnecessary capitals in “Science” and “Lockdown.” Aim for more natural academic collocations and check spelling; for example, use “a shortage of scientists” and “students’ future careers in science.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main message can usually be followed. Some grammatical errors nevertheless make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “Memorization is also quite a thing which require” has an incomplete, inaccurate clause, while “If students do not opt Science at University then it may led” contains errors in the verb pattern and tense. In “And Lockdown happen everything was shut,” clauses are joined without appropriate punctuation or a clear grammatical link. There are also problems with articles, agreement and plural forms, as in “we need good teacher who maintains.” Practise building accurate complex sentences, checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and separating independent clauses with suitable punctuation.
